Seniors' Care at NYGH: A video series on health and aging  

Men over 50 and women post-menopause are at great risk of osteoporosis. North York General Hospital offers an Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention Clinic.


Seniors' Care at NYGH is a six-video series about common health challenges in older adults: 
Parkinson's disease, chronic disease management, osteoporosis, falls prevention, dementia and delirium. 
 

The education series features North York General Hospital experts, patients and family members. Through our Specialized Geriatric Services, NYGH offers a wide range of clinics, programs and services to support older adults and their families.

Profile: CMIO and Gastroenterologist Dr. Jeremy Theal

Dr. Jeremy Theal is the Chief Medical Information Officer and a Staff Gastroenterologist at North York General Hospital.

 

NYGH's Chief Medical Information Officer   Dr. Jeremy Theal is a recognized expert in the design  and implementation of advanced  electronic medical record systems to improve the quality and safety of patient care .

Dr. Theal spoke to The Pulse about his roles, working at NYGH and what's next for health technology at the hospital.


 


Electronic medical records must do a better job of tracking smoking: Study

Many patients do not have information on whether they smoke or not in their electronic medical record, according to a new study led by North York General Hospital researchers.


Many patients do not have information on whether they smoke or not in their electronic medical record, according to a new study led by North York General Hospital researchers. The study is the first to track tobacco use with a national Canadian sample of family physicians' electronic medical records.


"By analyzing electronic records, we are able discover patterns in chronic disease so that care can be improved," says lead author Dr. Michelle Greiver, Department of Family and Community Medicine at North York General.

Two new physicians to North York General Hospital's Rudy and Rita Koehler Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU) are accepting new patients.

Dr. Kimberly (Kim) Lazare joined the Family Medicine Teaching Unit earlier in May and Dr. Tiffany Florindo in March.
