Shrine Mont Registration is HERE, and not for long -We need to get registration
finalized by September 22. Every year in October we retreat to the Shenandoah Mountains to restore, refresh and reconnect as a parish family (digital access very limited). When I arrive I always breathe easier, sleep better and enjoy my parish family. Fun times, a little education, and meals plentiful!!! Please come, it's a great place for you, for the kids and everyone. Please complete registration, INCLUDE payment, place in the alms basin or the lock box on the Ushers' desk.
Join us as we explore Pilgrimage through prayer, film, book, food, travel and conversation!
Our Fall Adult Education offering begins Thursday, September 26 at 7 pm in the Education Wing and Sunday, September 29 at 9:35 am in the nursery. This series is offered in part as preparation for our parish pilgrimage to France in April of 2020.
UPCOMING
Our Stewardship Campaign begins! Join us for a five-part sermon series on this year's theme, "Planting Seeds," beginning on
Sunday, September 29. More information on pledging for 2020 will be coming shortly, with the Ingathering planned for Sunday, November 3. Prayerful consideration of your pledge can begin by listening to Bishop Marianne's stewardship message
Sligo Woods Community Yard Sales - Saturday, September 28, 8 am - 1 pm, many families are participating, Pick up a map at 701 Justin Way. Rain date: September 29.
Blessing of the Animals - Sunday October 6.
Saint Luke Food Pantry
- All kinds of nutritious staples are needed. Food insecurity can be obvious or hidden. It affects individuals and families. Recipients are referred to Saint Luke Food Pantry by local social services agencies. Volunteers prepare bags based on a "formula" that assures a variety for all meals. A good strategy for considering what to buy is to imagine that you are organizing complete meals for yourself and/or others. Another possibility is to pick up on a theme from Deacon Kathryn's sermon last Sunday and imagine that you are preparing a tasty meal for Jesus and others whom he has invited as guests. Enjoy shopping!
As the World Turns - Globe contributions continue to make a difference. $580 has just been distributed to each of the following groups supported by this decades-old outreach from Good Shepherd: Shepherd's Table, Episcopal Relief and Development, MUSST (Ministries United Silver Spring Takoma Park), the Diocesan Hunger Fund (to support church feeding programs), and The DC Center for the LGBT Community. Thank you.
Hurricane Dorian Relief - You are encouraged to check the Episcopal Relief and Development website to learn how our denomination's outreach arm is supporting victims of Hurricane Dorian. A contribution to this effort may be made directly online through the website or by mail.
What About Pumpkin Fest?
You may have noticed that there has been no announcement about Pumpkin Fest 2019. After much prayer and discussion, it has been concluded that it is time to discontinue Good Shepherd's annual fall event and consider other options. Many thanks to Vonnie Schoppelrei, Ray & Deena Groshong, and all the volunteers who have coordinated and supported this event through the years. If you have comments or questions or if you have ideas for a future event, please talk to Fr. David.
