This week we distributed student progress reports for the first nine weeks of 2019-2020. If you have a student attending Oak Ridge, please review their results as soon as possible keeping in mind that we have a wonderful after-school tutoring program available to all of our Pioneers four days a week (details below).
Please be sure to mark the Tuesday, October 1 date as that evening is our annual Open House. We are looking forward to showcasing the campus and classrooms!
Have a nice weekend and good luck to our varsity football team as they are playing away tonight in Broward County vs. Deerfield Beach High School. Go Pioneers!

Tutoring began on Monday, August 19th - services are available to assist with your academic strength. Transportation began this week. Check the bus routes in the media center. Stops are "general areas" so you will need to choose the bus that has a stop closest to your home. See you there!

Plan Ahead: No Early Dismissal Wednesday, October 16, 2019
In order for all students participating in PSAT/SAT School Day to complete their tests without concern for running out of time, all OCPS students will be scheduled for a full school day instead of the normal early dismissal on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

QuestBridge Scholarship Program
High achieving seniors with a desire to study at one of 40 top institutions in the nation should look into the scholarship match program called QuestBridge. Students who apply for QuestBridge have the possibility of being "matched" with top institutions like Yale, Harvard, Rice, Duke, Dartmouth, University of Chicago and many more. Matched students typically will attend the institution free of charge or with a very significant financial aid package. This is a need-based scholarship. Finalists typically come from household earning of less than $65,000 annually for a family of four and have minimal assets.

During A & B lunches on September 6th all of the clubs and organizations were on display. The entire student body was welcome to check out what is available, ask questions, and talk to present members and advisors. It was a huge success!

No Excuses Mentoring Program

We held our first general body meeting for the 2019-2020 school year this week. We currently have 66 brothers spanning across 6 high schools located within Orange County Public Schools.
Our vision is "To ensure that EACH member is college or career ready once he graduates from high school."
Organization and structure plays a major role in every successful program! With that being said, each brother received a binder that has their current unweighted/weighted grade point averages, high school graduation readiness information, SAT/ACT scores, 2019-2020 college or career ready goal planning sheet, monthly calendars, and progress report/report card reflection logs.
Additionally, we will begin our leadership series segment this year using the book "Leadership and Soft Skills for Students" (above). This book focuses on the 3 R's: Readiness, Relationships, and Results!

In Memory of Senor Jaime Colon
To help support the family during this difficult time, Kenneth Gibbs (an AP World History instructor) put together a Golf Tournament to raise funds for the family. Many Administrators, faculty, staff and our SRO participated. A fun time was had by all and a generous amount of money was raised for the family.
