The end of summer is in sight, and many more shows are on the horizon! Let's take a look at what's happening around our region and beyond.
Deadline Approaching For
CFA International Show

Next Tuesday, September 24 is the deadline for ALL entries for the CFA International Show in Cleveland, OH. Last year's was one of the best shows on record and we're on track to do it again!

Wondering why you should enter? There's much more going on than just the shows! (note "shows" as there are two concurrent shows)
1. Exhibitors come from all over the world to this show - it's a great place to meet other breeders in your breed.
2. Activities abound! Remember the acrobatic Sivitsky Cats who wowed the judges on "America's Got Talent" last year? They'll be performing both days. There will be lots of celebrity cats to meet and greet the public (and exhibitors) as well.
And remember - FELINE AGILITY ALL WEEKEND!
3. Vendors!!!! This is the best shopping opportunity for all things feline!

2020 Regional Awards Banquet in Jacksonville.

The photo collection team would like to remind everyone that it's never too early to start preparations for our Regional Awards banquet! And with that, they're ready to begin accepting photos. Have you granded a cat? Earned a DM or Grand of Distinction title? Then they're going to need your photo in June. Avoid the end of season rush and send it in now!
Hurricane Relief Info

Hurricane Dorian flattened the Bahamas as a category 5 storm, destroying 60% of the homes there, leaving tens of thousands of people in need of assistance. And of course many pets separated from their owners and in need of assistance. For example, one shelter lost 97 animals and all of its supplies during a storm surge. However, it still has 75 dogs and 50 cats who survived and will need help. Some mainland US groups are setting up rescue programs for animals in the Bahamas in accordance with USDA and APHIS assistance and regulations.

Charlene Campbell, chair of CFA's Breeder's Assistance Program and Breeder Rescue Program would like to encourage everyone to donate to disaster relieve efforts in the Bahamas.  She states "We know for sure that the 2 islands that were most destroyed will be needing help to get shelters up and running.  As they clear debris many more pets will be found.  Our funds will be sent to the Bahamas Shelter(s) to help them where they need it the most, like:  get a staging area set up, pet emergency treatment, and repairs to help reunite pets with owners whenever possible and many will be transported to the US.

The Bahama Islands have lots of needs and we want to do the most good with our funding.  As information become available we will advise.  We are looking at all the options"

Region Loses Two Exhibitors

American Shorthair and later American Wirehair and Sphynx breeder
Dr. Virginia Wight (Mericat cattery) of Macon, GA passed away on September 4 after a prolonged illness.  

Barbara Contera (Pundit cattery) of Rockville, MD passed away September 1. Although retired from breeding for a number of years, exhibitors will remember her Siamese and Colorpoint Shorthairs. Letters of condolence may be sent to her husband Joe at

Cat Fanciers of Washington

The Cat Fanciers of Washington (CFW) is one of the oldest clubs in CFA and has been producing shows since the 1940s. As the club name indicates, the early shows were held in Washington, DC. Over time the show moved to the suburbs and now is held in a sports activity building in scenic Winchester, VA which is about 75 miles from Washington but conveniently located right at an exit of a major interstate highway. 

This year the club used the date previously used by the National Capital Cat Show and opted for a one-day show. The theme was "Cats in Holiday Hats" and both the ring decorations and rosettes made good use of the theme with cats wearing appropriate head gear for Halloween, Easter, New Year's, etc. The rosettes were the much-loved ones created by Mary K. David Raynor coordinated the advertising, with a heavy emphasis on Facebook but the club also advertised in the local newspaper and used Groupon. The resulting gate was terrific. He estimates that 1,000 visitors attended the show which delighted the vendors, exhibitors, and judges. The spectators enjoyed the Agility Ring, asked lots of questions, rooted for their favorites, and supported the vendors and the local shelter that was present.
