The Church and Society team is hosting a
Racial Justice Corner on the UMCE website listing resources for the congregation on Racial Justice. The resource list includes programs, videos and resource listings/information to help all learn more about racism, anti-racism and racial justice and to provide ideas for all on ways to help combat racism in our world. We often add new resources to the webpage and encourage all to spend a few minutes each week reviewing the listings and reading/listening to at least one item on the page as together we seek to follow Jesus' example and bring social and racial justice to the world.
This week we would like to spotlight the first episode of "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man." During this short video, Emmanuel Acho answers questions from white people, educating them on uncomfortable topics related to race. His hope is to increase understanding and compassion leading to change.

Great Need for Coordinators for the Evergreen Salvation Army Christmas Bell-Ringing Kettle Campaign
We are reaching out to local congregations because we are in dire need of additional board members for our all-volunteer Evergreen Service Extension Unit representing the Salvation Army in our community. Specifically, we need volunteers to join our board and help carry the weight of two extremely critical positions for our Fall Red Kettle Campaign. This is our only fundraiser each year and we strive to reinvest those funds, $40,000 - 50,000 per year, back to help those less fortunate in our mountain community. Assistance ranges from food, rent assistance, medical and dental assistance to back-to-school children’s clothing and even auto repair in crisis situations.
Our immediate need is for two new volunteers who can assist in managing this year’s Red Kettle Campaign. A Lead Coordinator and a Volunteer Coordinator in particular. They would be permanent members of our Board going forward and would attend our quarterly board meetings for as long as they are willing to serve. If you or anyone you know might have the interest, time and talent for these needs, please contact me. Know what a worthwhile way this would be to live out ministry for Christ. Here is a personal message from Dr. Jeff Brodsky, the founder of and inspiration for JOY International. On July 19 he will celebrate 10 YEARS of living barefoot - NO EXCEPTIONS!!! There is a Gala planned for July 19 that we all can participate in called Celebrate Freedom. Visit
www.joy.org (Use drop down menu, to events, to Celebrate Freedom.)
"
The number one question I'm asked too many times to count is, "Jeff, why are you barefoot?” I have a one word answer. Obedience. I am still barefoot because I believe with all my heart that on July 19th, 2010 God spoke to me in Phnom Penh, Cambodia after I visited a garbage dump where I saw many barefoot children and He asked me to live this way in solidarity with those children as well as all impoverished and trafficked children around the world. When people then ask me, “Why would God ask you to do this?” My answer is simple… “I don’t know. You’d have to ask Him. I just know what I heard.” When God asked me to live this way I had only 2 choices… Yes or No. Many people think I enjoy living this way. Those who think that, just don’t know me. I hate living barefoot, but I love what it has accomplished.
This, to me, is the reason to Celebrate Freedom. It’s not about me living barefoot. To me, it’s about being obedient to the calling God has given in setting captives free. It’s not just my calling. IT'S ALL OF OURS. " Dr. Jeff Brodsky
Please join your Mountain Community in solidarity with trafficked children who desperately need freedom, healing and hope! To register/donate for BFM 2020 visit

THANK YOU ABUNDANTLY ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO STILL WAIT FOR RESCUE.
