Symphoria Concerts

The Symphoria Brass Quintet will present a free concert, featuring a diverse program ranging from Gabrieli to modern pop favorites. This free concert kicks off Symphoria's winter concert season, which starts this Saturday! The concert is held in conjunction with Downtown Syracuse Employee Appreciation Week.

Tug of War Competition
Finding the Strongest Downtown Syracuse Team
Back by popular demand, several Downtown Syracuse work forces and organizations will put their strength to the test in Tug of War tomorrow (Friday afternoon). The Downtown YMCA will host the single-elimination competition, and they'll have some lawn games on hand too. There's still time to get a team together!
Sign-Up Information:
To register a team of six people, send a note to [email protected] and make sure to include the name of your company. Feel free to come branded, wearing your logo, and don't forget to bring your team spirit! All teams should meet at M. Lemp Park by 12:00 pm tomorrow. The first match will start at 12:15 pm, and the Downtown Committee expects to award a winner by 12:45 pm. While the winner wins bragging rights and an award, all participants will get a free two-week pass to enjoy the Downtown YMCA facilities.

Office Olympics & Syracuse Crunch Prize Wheel
Water Cooler Relay, Downtown B(r)ANDing & Paper Clip Chain Making
New to the Friday Finale this year, CH Insurance is hosting a series of "Office Olympics," including a Water Cooler Relay, a Downtown B(r)ANDing game (that involves launching rubber bands at various distances into "Downtown neighborhoods") and Making Connections (a Paper Clip chain-making contest).
Registration is encouraged, but not required. If you'd like to formally sign-up, please send a note to [email protected]. Ideally, organizers would like to see 1-3 participants per team.
The Syracuse Crunch will also be on hand, inviting participants and onlookers to spin a prize wheel!

SWBR and Appel Osborne are partnering to turn two parking spaces on South Franklin Street into a "sustainable hangout area." National PARK(ing) Day encourages community members to transform metered parking spaces into temporary parklets for the day. Come enjoy the park space and think about other possibilities in the urban landscape. Representatives at SWBR and Appel Osborne will be on-site to answer questions about sustainability and "going green" at home and work.

This parklet is an outdoor seating area open to any community members interested in enjoying a book or cup of coffee. Gourment grocery store and cafe to open on Salina Street in October
Downtown Syracuse is getting a gourmet grocery store! Epicuse, located at 334 South Salina Street (map) is expected to open in early October. The store will be open seven days a week, from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm on weekdays, and from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm on weekends. In addition to selling grocery items including fresh produce, proteins, pantry items, toiletries and other essentials, Epicuse will also serve meals prepared by SKY Armory chefs. These will be available for dine-in or take-out.

Progress Breakfast Series to Highlight Onondaga County's Role in Vibrant Downtown
Tickets on sale now for October 17 event
You're invited to join the Downtown Committee and Mower for the next installment in the Progress Breakfast series! The goal of the series is to highlight the progress that continues to recharge Downtown Syracuse. The next event will be held Thursday, October 17 from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at SKY Armory (map), and will focus on the role Onondaga County plays in fueling a vibrant downtown.
- Attendees will hear from Ryan McMahon, the Onondaga County Executive, on new county initiatives and hear his philosophy when it comes to Downtown Syracuse. The county executive will share his perspective about how what happens here, in Downtown Syracuse influences our region.
- Danny Liedka, president of Visit Syracuse, will speak about tourism and the draw that Downtown Syracuse has in bringing millions of people into the center of our city each year.
- One element that's emerging as a draw is the lens through which Hollywood and filmmakers are eyeing Downtown. Attendees will hear insight from Eric Vinal, the Onondaga County film commissioner, on the film industry, and the appeal of Downtown Syracuse. Vinal will also discuss the economic impact the film industry brings to our community.
Tickets are on sale now. Individual seats are $35, or you may purchase a table of eight seats for $280.

Actor Vince Vaughn was spotted in Downtown Syracuse this past Tuesday, first at the Downtown Farmers Market and then at JJ's Miss Syracuse Diner for a late breakfast with Hollywood filmmaker, Jeremy Garelick. Waitress Becca Tousant was able to grab a quick photo with Vaughn (pictured right).

Five startups in the GENIUS NY accelerator - AutoModality, Civdrone, Fotokite, OmniMesh and TruWeather Solutions - have raised more than $10 million in additional private investment. This follow-on-funding validates the investments the GENIUS NY program has made in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technologies and startups over the last three years, and proves the program's ongoing impact in Central New York. Congratulations to the GENIUS NY program, which operates out of The Tech Garden (map).

Runningboards Marketing Expands to Downtown Syracuse

Runningboards Marketing (RBM), a digital mobile billboard company headquartered in Watertown, has opened an office in Downtown Syracuse. RBM is now located in the ShareCuse co-working space at 224 Harrison Street. Perhaps you've seen the Digital Advertising Vehicle (DAV) around town. DAV (pronounced "Dave") has three LED screens to display video messages/images/sounds and is also capable of streaming videos to help organizations and businesses with advertising and branding. Runningboards Marketing hired additional drivers and hopes to have as many as three DAVs driving around the community.

This year's Gingerbread Gallery will be on display November 22 through January 5. Join in the fun and register to make a Gingerbread creation in the gallery!
