Dear K-5 Parents,

As you may know, yesterday afternoon Governor Cooper announced that schools in North Carolina may return students in grades K-5 to fulltime, in-person learning. Since that announcement, we have received questions asking whether that changes our plans to return our students to hybrid learning next month.

While LNC’s Reopening Committee will certainly take this new information under advisement, at this point there are no plans to alter our planned return on October 12. We are eager to see our students next month and firmly believe the safest and smartest way to do that is to gradually bring our K-12 students back on a hybrid basis to ensure that our health, safety, sanitation, logistical (carpool) and instructional protocols and processes are indeed sound. This gradual return, at about 50% capacity, affords us the chance to tweak anything that is needed while still being assured we are keeping our staff and students safe due to our smaller numbers.

Keep in mind, the Governor is making decisions considering all 100 counties in the state. While the health trends in Mecklenburg County continue to stabilize, the county's COVID-19 case counts, positivity rates and hospitalization rates remain among the highest in the state.

Please know that we remain committed to making solid decisions in the best interest of our entire community.
