Congratulations to Geri! We recently celebrated volunteer Geri's 20 years as an NLC volunteer September marks 20 years that Geri Webster has been volunteering with the Northern Learning Centre in Fenelon Falls. We are so very fortunate to have such great long term volunteers! Everyone looks forward to Geri arriving each week. She has a way of helping people learn as they laugh. Geri shares her life stories and experiences in a way that makes everyone at NLC feel that they can accomplish anything if they work at it. On top of her help and humour at the NLC, Geri hosts an end of the year BBQ every June for our group at her family cottage. She and her daughter plan games, fun, lunch and so much more to fill the day. This is something we all look forward to each and every year. Thank you, Geri, and congratulations! A visit from MP Jamie Schmale – Compass Early Learning & Care MP Jamie Schmale came to Compass Early Learning and Care Victoria Graduate, June 25th. We had invited him to our to help us celebrate the important work that we do – caring for children every day. Jamie knows first-hand the importance of quality early learning and care because his child has attended this program in the past. As Jamie toured Victoria Graduate, he saw many familiar faces – educators who have remained in the field, despite low pay and unstable funding. When asked why they have stayed so long in the field each educator shared their passion for children’s learning, the joy of discovery and investigation, and how they work from their hearts and minds every day. Each educator had their own story of what brings them to work each day, which inspired Jamie to call them “Rockstars.” We agree. Read the rest of the story here
