2019 Lake Maxinkuckee Fall Regatta raises the Barr

It couldn't be helped - it's a very sorry play on words - but the results are what they are!
Lead by this year's Maxinkuckee Fall Regatta Champion, Martin Barr (B-6), two more Barrs joined the TOP FIVE in this hotly contested event.

Tom Keenan (LF -88) Masters the Fenton Fall Regatta in 2019
|
By Bill De Coste (LF-11)
The 2019 Lake Fenton Fall Regatta was a blast as usual and very competitive with thirteen boats from six different lakes. The weather was great with sun and wind aplenty both days.
In total we sailed seven races with one throw out race. We had a very competitive fleet with six different race winners. Everyone enjoyed the traditional Fenton hospitality and had plenty of food, drink, and socializing.
All were happily sore on Saturday night after five hard races in medium-heavy air and secretly hoped for a lighter air Sunday, but it blew almost as hard on Sunday for the final two races. Thanks to all who helped make this regatta possible and to the exceptional race committee lead by the legendary David Nickels and son Kevin as has become tradition with help from multiple other veteran LFSC members.

Cam and Ben McNeil (SL-11)
Win C Scow Blue Chip
in Impressive Style
|
By Candace Porter
Five races determined the 2019 champion but these were tough, shifty conditions. Leaders rose and fell race to race (with the exception of McNeil) and rounding to rounding.
Winners of this year's 2019 WMYA Championship; Cam (left) and brother Ben (right) keep it rolling and beat the best of the best at the 2019 C Scow Blue Chip.
Ask the B-25, last year's winner, who was winning going away and ended up D-E-E-E-P! Or Ed Eckert who finished third overall but had a race where the final score could not describe how far back he was. Martin Barr was last at a rounding and moved to sixth the next. Okauchee was the queen of surprise each race. Race Committee sweated out every aspect of each race, each boat hoping the other end of the course would say the wind was "on course". Sailor after sailor commented how puzzling this all was! And these are the best of the best. It is only McNeil who had every race in the top ten.
Okauchee rolls out the red carpet for the event: Friday night Pork Chop Dinner, Saturday night dinner by the Pinahs', individualized sailboats for dessert. Giveaways hand selected by the keen eye of Deb Prange who graciously serves as the regatta chair each year. The committee starts planning in early Spring and the quality of the event is evidence of all the love for this event.
Awards were again an original watercolor by Okauchee's Doc Henschel who was featured a couple weeks ago after retiring from sailing at age 90! His watercolors still excite the winners so, no retiring, Doc.
