Cornell International Case Competition
On November 6, 2020 UConn real estate students had the opportunity to participate and compete in the 12th Annual Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition. 

Seniors, Nick Godfred, Culvert Moore, Devin Pallanck and Kevin Perrone presented the case findings. Alternates Anthony Riccio and Matt Pilavin sat through the process to glean from the upperclassmen's experience.   Though the UConn team did not place in the finals, the experience is one the students will not soon forget as it forged camaraderie and gave the students a sense of industry involvement. 

Cornell University took first place, followed by University British Columbia and University of Indiana rounding out the top three.

Professionals in the on line Classroom

Thank you to those who have contributed to the online format as a number of alumni and industry friends visited the classroom to impart practical industry experience. 

Ben Goldstein - Newmark Knight Frank - Ben is an associate with Newmark Knight Frank. On September 21, Ben office market trends from New York to Stamford and explained the ebb and flow of demand and Covid 19 impacts.

Mark Duclos - Sentry Commercial. Mark is the President of Sentry Commercial and current SIOR Global President . On October 5 Mark presented to the students on the industrial climate in Connecticut and beyond. Much was discussed regarding the increase in industrial space and demand with the Covid 19 impact. 

Steve Rice- Vesta Corp. Steve MBA, JD UConn 2013, is the Director of Acquisitions and Development. Steve brought his presentation to the classroom on October 12. He explained how he analysis and feasibility to source potential deals as well as intricately having knowledge of various financial programs including LIHTC. Steve also is an Adjunct Professor with the University of Connecticut.

Greg Konover- Simon Konover Company - Greg is the President of Konover Residential Corporation. Greg received his MBA from Columbia University and has brought his industry experience to the classroom on many occasions teaching as a UConn Adjunct Professor. Greg is responsible for the strategic management and growth of the residential portfolio. On October 26th Greg gave a presentation and among other things, shared how this segment of the company adapted from retail to multifamily over the years.

Christine Elmore - TA Realty. Christine class of 2009 is a Vice President and member of the acquisitions team for TA Realty. She is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and acquiring of real assets across all firm strategies. Christine's focus of acquisition has been Texas, Colorado, and the Southeast. On November 11 Christine presented some of the aspects of her responsibilities with the students and the impact of Covid 19 on today's market.

Ed Lange - MBA Class of '86. CEO Maxx Properties. On December 14th Ed shared with the students about the multi-family REIT that he has been with for the past 4 years.   Ed shared industry wisdom and knowledge from his many years of Chief Financial Officer positions with various companies throughout his career.

2021 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies has assisted many students with full-time or internship placement for 2021.  We are still in the process and hopeful of placing others. Real estate students have or are in the process of completing in what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country.  P

To date 2020-21 student full-time and spring or summer internship placement in real estate firms include the following:  Boston City Properties, Berkshire Hathaway,  Four Springs Capital, GID,  Goman & York, HIMCO, JGB Smith, Richman Group, RMS Construction Co. UBS and Wells Fargo.
