Preventing Fall-Related Injuries in Older Adults

Falling is often thought to be an inevitable part of aging - an understandable assumption since one in four Americans 65 and older falls every year and falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. But many falls and their resulting injuries can be prevented.

Each year falls prevention coalitions and allied organizations throughout the US raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults on the date of the Autumn - or Fall - Equinox. This year Falls Prevention Awareness Day is September 23.

When Not Talking About Your Grandchildren
Is a Good Thing
Resources Are Available for Older Adults
Raising Children

The grandparents outing sponsored by the Kenneth Young Center, an AgeOptions partner agency, was special in an unusual way: the grandparents decided not to do what many grandparents can't do enough of - talk about their grandchildren. It's not that these participants in the center's support group for grandparents and older relatives raising children aren't proud of the kids, but their days already focus on their grandchildren.
