Sunday Breakfast
Breakfast this coming Sunday, September 22, will be provided by guest chefs, Nelson & Janice Toebbe.

Our Sunday class topic will begin on C. S. Lewis.  We will cover his biography and his writings. If you want to do any pre-reading for discussion sake, we will cover Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, his science fiction space travel trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra and That Hideous Strength), and the Chronicles of Narnia.  This class will be taught by Dave Kirchinger.

Please plan on joining everyone in Board Hall between 8:30am and 9:45 where you will not only enjoy great food but a time for fellowship.

"Computer and Home Security" coming in Sept.
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew (BOSA) is pleased to announce the continuation of their lecture series introduced in February with "Cancer in Men" followed by "Dementia and Alzheimer's" this past May.

Our first topic this Fall will be "Computer and Home Security" by guest speaker Greg Gitschier. Now the leader of his own security consulting firm, Greg has had a wide and interesting career in law enforcement and security work. During a lengthy term of employment with the Secret Service, he was heavily involved with providing protection for our Presidents, royalty, foreign dignitaries, and even Pope John Paul II. He followed his federal career with work for the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, and currently serves as a Chaplain for both the Louisville Metropolitan and Anchorage Police Departments. He is a Deacon in the Catholic Church. Greg speaks frequently to groups in the Louisville region, and his firm consults with a number of local businesses on security matters.

This presentation will be held in Board Hall on Thursday, September 19 at 7:30PM, and all are welcome to attend.

There is no fee. Please let your neighbors know of this event. They are most welcome to join us for an informative evening.

If you plan on attending, you will help us greatly with an RSVP to Dawn at the church office (Phone: 245-8827 ext:10). This will help us to assure adequate seating, etc.

Reflections Special Folk Song Service
Saturday, September 28th *DATE CHANGE*
at 5:30pm

Are you a fan of sixties music? Do you still enjoy some of the classic folksongs that were so popular at that time, and still have a following today? Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul and Mary are still household names.

The sixties music also includes some of the favorite Jewish tunes that were heard by many in Israel and America.

Please join us, Sept. 28th at 5:30 for the folksong service and in Board Hall after the service for some tasty nibbles and beverages...and share some memories this music brings back to you.

Centering Prayer
Please join us for Centering Prayer on
September 24, at 6pm at the Lyman House (church office) conference room.

We meet every fourth Tuesday of the month.

Newcomer's Dinner
On Sunday, September 29th at 6:00pm in Board Hall, we will be holding a Newcomers Dinner in Board Hall.
This is for everyone who's become a new member over the past year and for people who have started worshiping with us during that period Even if your first time at St. Luke's is on September 29th, you're welcome.

This opportunity for fellowship can help make connections and kindle new friendships and draw us all closer together as a parish. A handful of parish leaders will be present to offer brief (1-2 minute) descriptions of our various ministries, how you can get involved, and how you can benefit from them.

We hope to see you there .

Sing Along
Let's get together for a Sing-Along on Monday, September 30th at 6:30pm in the Church. There are only so many hymns we can sing during worship every weekend.  This will give us a chance to enjoy some of our favorites that we don't get to sing very often.  In addition to the Hymnal 1982 and Songs of Praise and Worship, we'll have a selection of several dozen pieces to choose from that aren't in either of those books.

Golden oldies you might have grown up on, especially if you were once Baptist, Methodist, etc., like "Because He Lives," "How Great Thou Art," "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," and many, many more.  We sing about an hour, longer if we like.

St. Luke's Music Series
On October 20 St. Luke's Music Series will open its 6th season with an Organ Recital and Evensong at 4:00 pm with Shawn Dawson, Organist/Choirmaster at Calvary Episcopal Church.

Following the Evensong, our Music Gala will be held once again at the home of Brian and Celia Manlove, 2709 Anchor Way, 40223 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm.  A buffet supper will be served.  The Gala is always a very festive event with wonderful food and drink and cocktail piano music provided by Robert Lee.

Music is a vital ministry at St. Luke's which is made possible by the generous donations of our members and friends.  We thank all of you who have been so supportive of our past seasons!  Your donations to the Music Series allow us to extend a spiritual outreach to the Louisville community by sponsoring recitals, Evensongs and other special musical events in our beautiful church.  This year we're also asking for memorials to underwrite the cost of instrumentalists at Christmas and Easter services and a possible special concert in March 2020.

HomeLife Event Calendar
I am happy to compile events going on in the lives of our parishioners that they would like for other parishioners to support/attend, such as musical recitals, sporting events, business openings, craft shows, horse shows, etc.

For example, if I had a booth at the Cherokee Art Festival and wanted everyone to support me, that could be something we could add to the weekly email, bulletin and/or website. Hope this explains what I am trying to do.

People can send their events to me at [email protected] and I can get them to you. Thanks! Shaun McEntire
