|
Tuesday, August 11, 2020 | 12pm-1pm
Virtual Event
This event is presented by California ChangeLawyers. This event seeks to answer the question: In the age of #BlackTransLivesMatter, how can lawyers and activists show up for trans and queer folks? 2020 has been a year of wins for the trans and queer community, but also a year of pain and tragedy. At least 22 transgender or gender noncomforming people have been murdered, and most of them have been trans Black women and women of color. The fight for liberation is far from over. Alexander Chen and Dale Melchert, two activist lawyers, are here to offer their insight on the upcoming fights for trans and queer liberation. This event is Free and no CLE credit will be provided.

DRI Program Has Awarded $300,000 in Scholarships Since Inception
DRI announces its 15th annual Law Student Diversity Scholarship Competition in which two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded. The program is open to students who will be in their second or third year of law school in the 2020-21 academic year. Eligible are African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, LGBT and multi-racial students. Also eligible are female law students, regardless of race or ethnicity and law students who come from backgrounds that would add to the cause of diversity, regardless of race or gender.
The goal of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to two worthy law students from ABA-accredited law schools to promote, in a tangible way, the DRI Diversity Statement of Principle.
To qualify for this scholarship, a candidate must be a full-time student. Evening students also qualify for consideration if they have completed one-third or more of the total credit hours required for a degree by the applicant's law school.

San Francisco Queer Nightlife Fund (www.sfqueernightlifefund.org). We are organizing a direct relief mutual-aid fund for LGBTQ nightlife workers-i.e. DJs, servers, artists, bartenders. Our goal is to raise 200K to provide enough relief to 200 LMI workers for lifeline expenses (e.g. food, shelter, basic telecom, medical necessities).
We need support from members of the LGBTQ community who still have livelihoods and savings during this time of crisis, to help those who work paycheck-to-paycheck and do not have savings to weather unemployment and the COVID-19 economic downturn. We have only raised 36.5% of our 200K goal, and have already received over $235,053 in minimum funding requests from 201 applicants.
