Use transition period as chance to explore, strengthen goals

It’s never fun news to cover that a major leadership position opens up in the community, but that’s exactly what happened Wednesday with the announcement that the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and Executive Director Rhonda Jordal have parted ways after Jordal was in the position for a little over a year.
Chamber, Historical Society opposed to moving Harmony Visitor Center

The public forum at the September 10 Harmony City Council meeting was well attended by members of the Harmony Area Chamber of Commerce, the Harmony Area Historical Society, and the community who were concerned about a discussion that took place during the August meeting.

Institute

Institute for Organization Management (Institute) is the premier continuing education experience for chamber professionals. Since 1921, the Institute program has educated and empowered chamber executives with the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders in their organizations and industry.

The Institute curriculum is comprised of four week-long sessions. Each session is five days and is offered at five locations across the country annually. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute ultimately educates participants on all facets of running an association. Bellevue chamber names new president

Kevin Hensel has been named the new president and chief executive officer of the Greater Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber’s Board of Directors announced Hensel’s selection in a press release that noted his extensive ties to the Bellevue community.
Oktoberfest set to celebrate ‘harvest and heritage’ in Norfolk

It’s time to break out the lederhosen and dirndl...Jarad Dahlkoetter, events director for the Norfolk chamber, said the annual celebration has grown dramatically since its beginning in 2012, and he expects the eighth year to be even bigger and better. “It’s going to be the best one ever,” Dahlkoetter said.
Greater North Dakota Chamber panelists see 'crossroads,' some opportunities in trade war

Panelists for a Greater North Dakota Chamber Policy Summit discussion of tariffs on Tuesday, Sept. 10, lamented the effects of the escalating U.S.-China trade war but see some opportunities. "We're at a crossroads as far as trade is concerned in the United States," said panelist Thomas Shorma, CEO and president of WCCO Belting Inc., of Wahpeton. "North Dakota's very dependent on agriculture and exporting, both. The trade war with China is having a devastating impact on ag, not just in North Dakota, but across the country, and certainly it's impacting the exports."
FMWF Chamber honors Steve Swiontek as 2019 Legacy Leader

Longtime area banker Steve Swiontek received one of the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce top honors, being named the 2019 Legacy Leader at the group’s annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 12. Swiontek, executive chair and chairman of the board of Gate City Bank, was praised for his drive, passion for innovation, love of philanthropy, and dogged determination to share a gentle, quirky sense of humor.
Gov. Noem visits B9 Creations to kick off Week of Work program

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was at B9 Creations in Rapid City Monday to kick off a program that will become the largest internship initiative in the state's history...The South Dakota Week of Work is a partnership of the Department of Education, the Department of Labor and Regulation, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the South Dakota Retailers Association.
Lane resigns from Chamber of Commerce to take lead role in Harrisburg

Brandon Lane has resigned his position as membership manager at the Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. Lane has been with the chamber for the past four years and will continue his duties through Sept. 14 and assist at the Pigskin Classic, a major event on the chamber’s calendar.
