MRS. JOHNSON'S NOTES
Dear Parents,

We had a good turnout for the School Council meeting. Thanks to all that attended. If you missed the meeting, you can view the agenda and PowerPoint presentation on our website.

Just a reminder that we have fall break October 8 - 12. Students return on the 13th. There will be no book pick up this coming week due to fall break.

As we move into the second nine weeks of instruction, we realize that some families may have changes that have occurred or students that are struggling with the current model of instruction that was selected on the GCPS survey where you made a choice between digital learning or in-person learning. Parents were asked to make the commitment for the semester.  Changes for individual students are being considered for the second nine weeks if needed to better serve the students. We will be doing individual considerations of students based on student and/or family's needs.  Parents wanting an instructional learning change for the second nine weeks need to contact Ms. Johnson via email at lisa.marie.johnson@gcpsk12.org by October 5 with the change occurring at the start of the second nine-weeks on October 13.  Once the school is able to review all of the information, we will communicate with each family.  Any requests made after October 5 will not be allowed. Parents will have an opportunity to reevaluate their instructional model again at the end of the semester and make changes in January.

Have a great fall break! Enjoy your family, rest, relax and don't forget to have your students read every night.

MEDIA CENTER

Book Fair News
Our virtual Scholastic book fair goes live on 10/15!
All books are delivered to your home and there are thousands to choose from!  This is a big fundraiser for us, so the Media Center appreciates your support!  There will be an email with the link when we go live on the 15th!

Book Holds and Book pick up!
We want to let you know we are pulling books daily for our in-person students and delivering them to classrooms as soon as we can.  We print a list every day, so if a child puts a hold on after the list is printed, it may not be delivered until the following day.   We are so excited that so many students both in-person and digital are holding books.  The deadline for digital student holds is 4pm on Wednesdays, however, it would be helpful to place holds before Wednesday afternoon to give us time to pull and process them all.  There will be no book pickup on Friday 10/9, due to the student holiday.  We will see our digital friends on 10/16!

AR September Challenge
In the month of September we had over 1,240 AR quizzes taken and as a school read 15,142,443 words!

Here is a breakdown by class of the September challenge.  Listed
are the top 3 for classes participating so far.
Remember to challenge yourself and set your own goals.  We
will still have a grand total at the end of the school year!
We can't wait to see the October challenge totals!
