MLive reports Governor Gretchen Whitmer told reporters on Monday that she and Republican legislative leaders are "desperate" to avoid a government shutdown, and she may propose a stopgap budget measure as long as there are "good-faith" negotiations about spending more to fix the roads.  Read More

The Detroit News reports that President Donald Trump has nominated former Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard to be U.S. attorney for the Western District of Michigan. The announcement was made August 14. Read More

WILX Honors Sportscaster Tim Staudt
Following his induction last week to the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame, WILX-TV (Lansing) sportscaster Tim Staudt was honored again with a one-hour television special titled "Decades with the Dean," hosted by news anchor David Andrews. The program aired August 15.  Read More

WXYZ Honored with NABJ 'Salute to Excellence' Award
WXYZ-TV (Detroit) was honored with a Salute to Excellence Award from the National Association of Black Journalists at the NABJ's annual convention and career fair in Florida on August 10.  Read More

WOOD-TV Celebrates 70 Years!
On August 15, 1949, the station now known as WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) signed on.  Originally WLAV-TV and operating on channel 7, the station was the only one in Grand Rapids, carrying programming from NBC, CBS, ABC and the DuMont network.  Read More

Blarney Stone Broadcasting and the Detroit Lions Radio Network have announced a partnership that will bring NFL football to the Traverse City region on WLDR-FM (101.9) for the next two seasons.  Read More

IVaccinate Kicks off Immunization Campaign
Statistics indicate that 58 percent of Michigan toddlers are not up to date on their vaccinations and only 37.7 percent of Michigan teens ages 13 to 17 are up to date on their vaccinations. The MAB Board of Directors authorized IVaccinate as their statewide Community Service Campaign for 2018-19 earlier this year. Thank you for your help in promoting childhood vaccinations. Read More
