Wishing everyone a successful 2019-2020 school year!
1. Record every CSE meeting "for your records." No further explanation is necessary and it may prove to be invaluable. Simply inform the chairperson in advance so that the district can record too. Either they watch their p's and q's at the meeting and give you what you want or you have them denying you (and likely citing a bogus reason) on the record.

2. Ask to see your child's work samples that pertain to each IEP goal and objective. Keep track so that any discrepancies can be explained.

3. Disagree with District evaluations? Request an independent, unbiased, comprehensive educational evaluation at the district's expense. They have only 2 ways they can respond: grant it and pay for it in full (at the prevailing rate in the community) or commence an action against you to defend their subpar evaluation.

4. If your child is exhibiting ANY behaviors that impact their learning (inattention, impulsivity, school phobia, etc) the district is obligated to do the necessary analysis to get to the root cause (conduct a Functional Behavioral Assessment) and develop a strategy or strategies to improve it (create a Behavior Intervention Plan)!

5. Is your school's CSE telling you that they cannot put a methodology on your child's IEP? THAT DOESN'T WORK if the methodology is required for the child's progress. Think ABA by a trained BCBA and accept nothing less.
