LOOKING AHEAD

SPIRITUAL GROWTH CLASSES! Spiritual Growth Classes for adults develop "intelligent faith" in three categories of classes: Foundations, Christian Living and Faith & Culture, taught by equipped teachers. Starting Sun., Sept. 29, at 11 a.m.,  Emmanuel will launch a new system of Spiritual Growth Classes for adults that run on a quarterly basis (8-11 weeks). Here are this first quarter's classes:
  • The Community of Eternity (Foundations) by David Hoffman, meeting in Garden Room B.
Church. A word that has initiated countless thoughts, feelings, institutions, traditions, opinions, and divisions over the years. In this study, we will examine the Scriptures to see what the Church is supposed to be, explore history to see what it has been and embrace a future where the Church fulfills its God-given purposes.
  • Moving Toward Maturity (Christian Living) by Connie Karman, meeting in Garden Room D.
Each of us has deep human needs for identity, righteousness, and significance; asking ourselves, "Who am I? Am I okay? Where do I belong?" As we grow in faith, we see that we are not bystanders in our spiritual life, we are active participants with God, who is inviting us into relationship with him and one another. This class will study the words and actions of Jesus to learn how to be formed and transformed into his likeness.
  • The School of Prayer (Christian Living) by Teri Parker & Jennifer Bond, meeting in the Family Room.
Power, comfort, guidance and humility are some of what characterizes the kingdom of God. Although these qualities can be developed through prayer, the people of God may not always experience this. Join us as we search the Old and New Testaments to discover how to move from prayers that may frustrate us to prayers that transform us.
  • How to Interpret the Bible (Christian Living) by Brian S. Chan, meeting in the Lower Auditorium.
We hear that we're supposed to read the Bible, but how can we understand God's Word? What are the pitfalls? What are techniques for mining the treasures of Scripture? Be blown away by the Word of God by learning methods for studying and interpreting the Bible to feed and enrich your spiritual life.
