Standard
Note from Administration:

This week I had the pleasure of watching our students in their classrooms, on the athletic field, and anxiously pep talk themselves for the upcoming theater auditions. We continue to have a wonderful, positive energy in the building and our combined efforts at masking has helped keep our school as healthy as possible.

As an administrator, I am attuned to seeing patterns as they develop and one that I'd like to make you aware of is the increase in crime in our neighborhood. I mentioned this in a message to students yesterday - found on the YouTube link below: a community member was robbed in our neighborhood on Tuesday, late afternoon. Law enforcement was called and are investigating. Many local crimes are crimes of opportunity and I want to ensure students and families are taking proper steps to be extra safe:

  • Wearing only one ear bud listening to music or listening at lower volumes
  • Being aware of surroundings and who is nearby
  • Walking home with friends and neighbors when possible
  • Keeping wallets and other valuable items hidden from view
  • Ensuring cars and bikes are fully locked
  • Letting families know their plans for getting home and estimated time of arrival
Some of these practices are ones that we enact with our younger children and often let go as students become older and more independent. As a parent, I encourage all of you to review your family's protocols to ensure you and your student feel as safe as possible in your travels to and from school. We continue to work with our School Safety officials and our team in the building to ensure our students are as safe as possible during school hours and during their travels to and from home.

Finally, I mentioned in a Robocall earlier this week an incident in which a student needed extra support from a crisis team. I was incredibly impressed with our students who, realizing one of their colleagues needed help, did their best to respect the privacy of the student. We saw students keep calm, give the student space, and no one pulled a cell phone out to record the situation. Our students' response showed incredible maturity and I want to commend everyone for their care.

Have a great weekend! I look forward to seeing you at conferences next week.
