Save the Date: Fall Online Auction

The Summit Online Auction on Friday 10/30

Mark your calendars for Friday, October 30th, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. for The Summit's Online Auction!

Normally, at this time of year, The Summit Development Office is in full swing planning for our fall fundraising event, The Gala. This year, we're trying something different.

Starting on Friday, October 23rd, The Summit Fall Online Auction will open and run until the evening of October 30th. That night, we will host a livestream event as bidding times end for auction items.

The auction will contain many of the fun items we have had in past Gala auctions, as well as some clever new twists. Details will be shared in the next few weeks as we ramp up to our launch date on Friday, October 23rd!

We are so grateful to have this opportunity to get together as a community, raise some important funds for the school, and try something new with all of you.

For questions, or to volunteer to help with this event, please contact Vince Currao, Development Officer.

FAQs:

How much are they?
Each mum voucher is $12 and is good for one 2-gallon jumbo size hardy mum.

What colors do they have?
They have several shades of bronze, orange, white, purple, red, and yellow. All colors available at both locations.

How do I pay for the mums?

Student Spotlight
7th graders Sydney W. (left) & Emily C. (right) with their winning designs.

Student Spotlight highlights the achievements of our Summit students. This week, we spoke with Sydney & Emily, winners of the CASA of Southwest Missouri Holiday Card Art Contest!

What are your names?
Sydney Walker and Emily Chindlund

What grade(s) are you in?
7th Grade

How long have you attending The Summit?
Sydney: I have been attending The Summit since 2nd grade.

Emily: I have attended The Summit since PreK.

Tell us about the art contest. What inspired your designs?
Sydney: I thought it would be cool to zoom in on something that we see during winter, so I chose to paint a snowman for CASA this year. I also really wanted to add texture into my painting, so I used a splatter painting technique to look like snow.

Emily: I have always loved the way a red barn looks during the winter, the white snow on top of the barn. I think it makes for a really nice scene that kind of captures the feeling of Christmas without being only about Christmas.

How did you feel when you heard you were a winner?
Sydney: I was really excited and surprised when I found out!

Emily: I was super excited!

How has art influenced your life in other ways?
Sydney: Art has given me light into other arts, such as dance, which I love to do.

Emily: It has really helped me to discover who I am by expressing myself through dance and piano.

What is your favorite art project you have created at The Summit?
Sydney: It is hard to choose just one, but projects I really like to do are the 3D art projects that we do every year for LAD Fair.

Emily: If I had to pick one, I would choose the 3D art project we did in 3rd grade. It was really fun to make, and it was the first 3D art project we made.

What other activities are you involved in at The Summit?
Sydney: I am in the STEM elective this year, which allows me to do competitions. We are working on preparing for LEGO Robotics right now. Last year, I participated in Destination Imagination and LEGO Robotics.

Emily: I am also in the STEM elective, so I have participated in Destination Imagination and LEGO Robotics. I have also participated in math competitions.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Sydney: I would like to work in the medical field as a cardiologist. Or I would like to be a professional dancer on Broadway.

Emily: I want to be a marine biologist or a professional dancer.

If you could meet one famous artist, who would it be?
Sydney: If I could only meet one, I would choose to meet Pablo Picasso because I really like his abstract artwork.

Emily: If I had to choose one, I would choose Van Gogh because I love the "Starry Night" painting.

Cloud Artwork

We have had some beautiful weather in the Ozarks, and our students have enjoyed taking many of their projects outside into the Big Backyard! After learning about the different cloud types and how they're formed, Mrs. Kowalczyk and the Kindergarten class headed outside with their sketchbooks to see what they could find in the sky!

Check out the Art Blog to see what other creative projects are happening at The Summit!

Reminder: Layer Up for Fall Weather!

Fall is officially here, and with it comes cooler weather! We have been fortunate with many beautiful mild days this school year, and we plan to continue spending as much time as possible outside as weather permits. Please send jackets, hats, and gloves as appropriate for cooler weather with your children, so we can all stay bundled and warm while we learn and play outside.
Help Needed: School Reviews

It's no secret that we love our school! At The Summit, we love to learn, create, explore, and grow together. As the only fully accredited independent school in Springfield, we offer a unique learning environment in the Ozarks, and we want to spread the word! To do that, we need your help. If you are a Summit parent, guardian, grandparent, student, or community supporter, please consider leaving a school review for us on Niche

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to progressive education in the Ozarks!
Now Accepting Applications!

The Summit is still accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year! We have virtual admissions options and screenings flexible for a variety of family schedules. If you know someone who would love to learn at The Summit, please contact Amy Maas, Summit Admissions Officer.

Don't forget Family Referral Bonuses! Current Summit families who refer a new student to The Summit could receive up to $500 in Growth Fund credit! Email Amy for more details.
Family Business Directory

The Summit will be updating the Family Business Directory for the 2020-2021 school year. The Summit uses the Family Business Directory to build relationships within The Summit community by offering families with businesses the opportunity to list their business information. This directory allows our families to support one another through referrals and patronage.

Participation is completely optional and free of charge. Teachers also use the directory as a reference for potential guest speakers in their classrooms and/or field trip opportunities. If you are interested in being listed in the Family Business Directory, please use this link to submit your information.
