News & Updates | October 2021
Dear Friend,

The leaves are changing in New England, and it's making its way down the coast.

Every year, it seems to catch me by surprise. I see the colors change on trees here and there, but there is always a moment when I really notice the beauty. I'm driving somewhere or walking with my family, and it strikes me. I imagine God forming Creation with God's hands and offering it to us as a beautiful gift.

Creation is a gift, and one we need to care for. As we notice the fall colors, let us take some time to thank God for this gift and reflect on the ways we use, or misuse, God's Creation.
"Today’s environmental crisis is impacting in a particular way on the poor and vulnerable. Action is needed urgently by Christians and by all people of good will. Whole nations and peoples need an ecological conversion if we are to be honest custodians of this wonderful planet. We can still change the course of history."

Jesuits Global, Universal Apostolic Preference, "Caring for Our Common Home"
I would like to invite you today to do two things:

  • Watch this video from Pope Francis, reflecting on, as the pope says, "our lifestyle, especially during these moments of health, social and environmental crisis.”

  • Pray with this ecological examen, considering your personal relationship with creation.

Thank you for joining our community in prayer to contemplate the effects the environmental crisis has on each one of us and the actions we can take in caring for God's gift.

Peace be with you.

Un abrazo,
Carlos Aedo

Reflections on Jesuit Saints and Blessed

Our Jesuit Lectionary now includes a reflection for each feast — Jesuit saints, blessed, and other important feasts for the Society of Jesus — contributed by the Jesuits East Vocations team.

The Office of Ignatian Spirituality remains committed to working toward racial justice. As a staff we continue to prayerfully discern our roles in both the perpetuation and the fight against racism. We invite everyone in our community to join us in praying for conversion of heart and in discerning how to take action. Each month we share what is informing prayer and conversation among our staff.
Consolation & Desolation

"I don’t like conflict. Let me be a little more honest, I actively avoid conflict and will remain silent even when I should say something."
