HOLY COMMUNION TO THOSE IN CARS
In the months ahead, we will be offering you the opportunity to come and receive the gift of the Eucharist in Holy Communion from your cars. This will take place on the last Sunday of each month, our next opportunity will be on June 27. All are welcome. This opportunity is especially for those who are not able to worship in person at St. Mary’s.

Please follow the directions below:

  • Starting at 1:00pm, after the congregation leaves the Noon Mass, cars may line up entering from the east Oakwood entrance.
  • Driving through the parking lot, proceed under the school breezeway and drive behind the church, stopping by the south church/elevator entrance where the priest will be.
  • Please stay in your car, with a mask fully covering your nose and mouth, waiting in prayer to receive the Eucharist.
  • The priest will process from car to car, offering the Eucharist.
  • After you receive the Eucharist you can pull over, parking your car in the parking lot, offering a prayer of thanksgiving for the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist.
CHURCH OF ST. MARY
COR YOUTH MINISTRY
A few weeks ago I was able to attend a retreat with some of my close friends and other parish members somewhere on top of a hill in seemingly the middle of nowhere, Illinois. It was much more exciting than the location makes it seem, and on this small hill in the endless woods, I was able to meet and talk to real life nuns, write poetry about Father Radley’s killer outfits, play dodgeball with a seminarian, but most importantly had time to myself to grow my relationship with God that had been previously squandered by the overwhelming pressure of AP exams and finals. That weekend, I challenged myself to stow my phone away for the entire two day trip, and though it wasn’t for long, I could see a difference in my mood and prayer life upon my return. Though it was plenty fun exploring the hidden Stations of the Cross ravine, frolicking through tall grass, and playing football in the fields, it’s important to take a step back and acknowledge how God made it possible for me to have those fun experiences and through them, connect closer to Him in the quiet moments.

Have you or do you know someone who is thinking about the annulment process? In the past, the process has been rather lengthy and mysterious. Thanks to Pope Francis the process has been simplified and is more friendly. Looking at the process as therapeutic, you will be pleasantly surprised at how helpful it is. If Deacon Bob can be of help in walking you or someone you know through the process and answer your questions, please email or call him. He is here to support you!

FROM AROUND THE ARCHDIOCESE
Archdiocese of Chicago Father Ronald Kunkel, S.T.D., appointed Executive Director of the Secretariat of Doctrine and Canonical Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

The Archdiocese of Chicago has announced that archdiocesan priest Father Ronald Kunkel, S.T.D., was appointed executive director of the Secretariat of Doctrine and Canonical Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), by the USCCB General Secretary, effective August 9, 2021. In his new role, Kunkel will oversee and manage the work of the Secretariat in its responsibility to support the Bishops' Committee on Doctrine, and provide theological and pastoral consultation to bishops and USCCB offices and departments.

“We are proud Father Kunkel has been invited to serve our episcopal conference in this important role,” said Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago. “We have every confidence he will distinguish himself as he collaborates with bishops in the United States.”

A native of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Kunkel, 51, was ordained to the priesthood in 2000. He served as associate pastor of St. Peter Parish, Skokie, and associate pastor and director of liturgy at Holy Name Cathedral. Since 2005, he has served at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein as an instructor of systematic theology, assistant professor of dogmatic theology, director of sacred liturgy, and associate professor of dogmatic theology.

“Throughout his time at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Father Kunkel has been a highly respected teacher and mentor, preparing both seminarians and laypersons for successful ministry,” said Very Reverend John Kartje, rector/president of USML/Mundelein Seminary. “His exceptional gifts in teaching theology and liturgy will serve the bishops well and be a blessing for the Catholic Church in America.”

STEWARDSHIP

“...as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality.”
---------------------------------------------------- 2 CORINTHIANS 8:14
We are responsible not only for our own lives, but for the lives of those around us. It is important that we not only grow, nurture, and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the “Body of Christ.” We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation.
