The Jackson County Department of Health and Human Services organizes an annual Angel Tree Christmas Project. This program provides Christmas gifts for children who are less fortunate, including those children who have been placed in foster care homes or in relative placements through our agency. DHHS is currently contacting churches and businesses as potential donors for this important project.
The program works like this: Churches and businesses are given decorative angels to hang on a Christmas tree or in another suitable location. Angels are numbered and include a corresponding numbered envelope containing the child’s name, age, gender and gift suggestions. Donors select an angel and purchase gifts for the child. Gifts need to be wrapped and returned to the sponsor site (your church or business) for pick up by DHHS staff or volunteers who will deliver the gifts to the MDHHS office for distribution.
We ask that donors limit themselves to a maximum of three gifts per child with a maximum total value of approximately $50.00
. This will help ensure that children from the same family receive similar numbers and types of gifts. Donates of new, or slightly used, winter hats and mittens would also be greatly appreciated as our customers are always in need of these items.
Should you decide to participate in the Angel Tree Project, the angels will be delivered to you by Friday, November 8 so they can be available to your donors before Thanksgiving. Gifts should be returned to your organization by Wednesday, December 4. Our staff or volunteers will be picking up all gifts on Monday, December 9.
Please let Angela Guadagnini know by October 29 if you would like to be part of our program this year. She can be reached at 517-780-7666 if you have any questions about this program.
