Richard Crouse praises excellent care    
Richard Crouse was grateful for the excellent care he received from Dr. Peter Stotland and the rest of the team at North York General Hospital when he underwent laparascopic cancer surgery.
Richard Crouse ,  a film critic for CTV's Canada AM, was referred to Surgical Oncologist Dr. Peter Stotland when a tumour was discovered during a routine colonoscopy. Laparoscopic surgery, which has significant advantages over traditional surgery techniques, was performed.

"The care I received from Dr. Stotland and the rest of the team at North York General Hospital was excellent. I knew I was in good hands and surgery was the first step in getting back to normal," says Richard.

Barb Liddiard, Chair of the Volunteer Services Gift Shop, is surrounded by a wide selection of popular plush toys from the General site's Gift Shop.
Since 1966, over $7 million has been donated to North York General Hospital by our service volunteers. The successful collaboration between the hospital and volunteers keeps growing stronger with a deeper focus on patient- and family-centred care.

Perinatal bereavement team supports grieving parents
Over 70% of the nurses on NYGH's Labour and Delivery unit have taken supplemental training to support grieving parents.
Preparing to bring home a baby is one of the most exciting times for new parents. What rarely crosses their minds is the inconceivable thought they may never come home with their baby.

"Our job is to offer as much comfort and care as possible during this horrible time," says Patricia Wlodek, Clinical Nurse Educator in the Maternal Newborn Program and perinatal bereavement team lead. "Parents are in shock, grief stricken and overwhelmed and we are here to support them as much as possible and get them ready to go home."
Tips on healthy food portions
NYGH Registered Dietitian Laura Goodwin says a handy tool for measuring your food is your hand.
"Making healthy food choices including how much you eat doesn't have to be overwhelming," says  Laura Goodwin , a Registered Dietitian at North York General Hospital. "Knowing a few key rules can help you get on the road to a healthy lifestyle."
