TIME OUT! This REALLY happened.

A Note From Pastor Linda

For everything there is a season, and a TIME for every matter under heaven... Ecclesiastes 3

Dear Church,

If you ever fall into quicksand, the most important thing to remember is this: take your time! Quicksand, unlike water, will not move out of the way to let you pass. Instead, it resists movement. Flailing about will only cause you to sink deeper and deeper. Moving slowing gets you safely to shore.

It was no accident that most every Mister Rogers' Neighborhood episode began with the camera zooming in on a YELLOW light... SLOW DOWN. It was as if Fred Rogers himself was saying, "Slow down and meet me here. I'm waiting for you. You matter to me!" Sunday was all about Sabbath and the THIRD COMANDMENT that connects heaven to earth: Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Following worship, I glanced down at my iWatch...What time is it? And this is what I saw: (See above image) Yup- my iWatch fell apart!!

Maybe a better question than What time is it? is What is time for?. God did not create us to be to be human DOINGS. God created us to BE human BEINGS. Some of you asked me how I Sabbath since I work on Sundays J! For me, Sabbath comes during worship as we join our voices in liturgy and in song. I try to remove myself form work-mode to worship-mode. It also comes in my practice (almost daily!) of yoga. This is the space where I intentionally BREATHE and PAUSE- and take TIME to reconnect body and spirit.

Many of you have connected with me this week about SABBATH and PAUSE. I share this from one of you:

See you in CHURCH!

October Book Club:
Born A Crime by Trevor Noah
Monday, October 7
7 PM in the Gathering Space

Trevor Noah's unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents' indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa's tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle.
