Making Progress Happen in 2020

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has outlined his agenda for 2020, delivering his State of the State address from the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany on January 8.

Governor Cuomo is asking lawmakers to make the “New York Buy American” Act permanent, which requires DASNY, the Department of Transportation, Thruway Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Office of General Services, and the SUNY Construction Fund to include a contract provision requiring the use of American-made structural iron and structural steel for all surface road and bridge projects with contracts worth more than $1 million.

Additional proposals in this year's agenda, "Making Progress Happen" range from combating domestic terrorism, legalizing cannabis, and expanding free college tuition to re-imagining the Erie Canal, and expanding redeveloping Penn Station, creating an Empire Station Complex.
