IMPORTANCE OF RABIES VACCINES
Many pet owners think rabies vaccinations aren't important for indoor pets such as cats. But, in fact, vaccination against rabies is critical and very safe vaccines are available, Sandra Sawchuk, a clinical instructor with the Primary Care Service, shared recently on Wisconsin Public Radio. "In our country, the number one domestic animal that gets diagnosed with rabies is our cat," she said. "Even indoor cats are at risk because bats are carriers and they come into homes."

STUDY OF CATS WITH SEIZURES
The Small Animal Neurology Service is enrolling feline patients with a history of seizures who are receiving end-of-life treatment at UW Veterinary Care. This study will investigate the clinical signs and physical changes to the brain that are caused by seizures in cats. The aim is to confirm that temporal lobe epilepsy, the most common type of epilepsy in humans, occurs in cats. This will advance treatment options for cats with epilepsy.
