Cornerstone Bank Makes Donation to Pleasant Street
Neighborhood Network Center
Cornerstone Donation
Pictured here, L to R: Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center Director Emily Linhares and Cornerstone Bank Chairman & CEO K. Michael Robbins.

Cornerstone Bank recently donated $1,000 to the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center, an organization whose mission is to create a safe, attractive, and livable community of people with varied means and backgrounds. They aim to create partnerships between residents, neighborhood organizations, businesses, churches, schools, colleges, financial institutions, human service organizations, and the government to achieve their vision and address issues of common concern throughout the community.

This donation will go directly toward a series of five workforce development and education workshops put together in partnership with Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester Community Action Council, and Workforce Central. Throughout these workshops, unemployed and underemployed residents will learn how to write a resume, how to conduct a job search, and how to ace an interview. Participants will also learn about other training programs that can prepare them for a career that will pay a living wage and offer benefits. Food, child supervision, and translation services will be provided during the workshop.

"Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center is a driving force in connecting people throughout the community," stated Cornerstone Bank Chairman & CEO K. Michael Robbins. "We are honored to be able to support the workforce development and education workshops for the unemployed and underemployed residents of Worcester."

North Brookfield Savings Bank Announces Success of School Supply Drive
North Brookfield Savings Bank extends thanks to the many generous, local community members for their contributions to help local school children in need.
NBSB school drive

North Brookfield Savings Bank is proud to support our local East Brookfield and Brookfield Elementary Schools through the Back to School Supply Drive. Shown are North Brookfield Savings Bank Branch Operations Manager Cheryl Orne and East Brookfield Assistant Branch Manager Renee Jurczyk proudly displaying some of the school supplies donated by generous community members, customers and NBSB employees.

North Brookfield Savings Bank is committed to excellence and the support of their local communities, which is exactly why the Bank hosts the annual Back to School Supply Drive fundraiser in order to help children from their local communities to excel in school. With the fundraiser coming to a close, and the children returning to their school classrooms, North Brookfield Savings Bank is pleased to announce the fundraiser was a resounding success! In fact, because of the Bank's contribution and the overwhelming support of local neighbors and community members, many of the children had a special backpack full of supplies to help start their school year of right.

"We frequently hear that our customers love this fundraiser and we love it too! Back to School season is such an exciting time of year and we are so happy to work with our community members to support our local children," said Andrea Healy, Senior Vice President of Human Resources. "I think we all agree that each and every child, regardless of income or circumstances, deserves the opportunity to be as prepared as possible to receive their education and start the school year feeling positive. It is so wonderful to be involved and help make that possible."

Throughout August, North Brookfield Savings Bank employees, customers and community members showed their kindness and generosity by making thousands of donations. Many supporters visited the branches donating multiple backpacks and overflowing shopping bags of supplies, including pencils, notebooks, erasers, pencil cases, folders and lunch boxes. When the fundraiser came to a close over 6,000 school supply items were collected to be distributed to the children of local schools.

School supply donations were delivered directly to local elementary schools where the welcoming staff divided up the collected supply items and prepared them for children who would benefit from them in the coming first days of school.

"The School Supply Drive fundraiser is one that both the givers and the receivers experience joy from," said Caitlin O'Connor, Assistant Vice President/Marketing Manager. "We are overwhelmed and grateful for the continued generosity shown by the members of our communities. It is clear that we all want the children to have a positive and successful school year. Our sincerest thanks to everyone who showed their support."

Cooking with Rico: Northern Italian Cuisine
Avellino, Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 6:30pm

Compared to the USA, Italy is a small country, but stretches across an immense region, with the northern region sharing borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia. Italy's regional cuisines express influences from both the geography and the country's neighbors, while maintaining a distinct regional flavor. As a result, there is no singular "Italian cuisine." Like other cuisines of the Alps, Northern Italian cuisine showcases richer fats from dairy, such as cream and butter, as opposed to the South where olive oil is more commonly used than butter. Herbs such as rosemary and sage are commonly used, perhaps an influence from northern neighbors. In addition to the ubiquitous pasta, Northern Italian cuisine uses staples such as rice and corn, featured in risotto and polenta. Situated across mountainous, woodsy terrain and fresh water, Northern Italian cuisine features a wide range of protein such as beef, veal, pork, rabbit, quail, and fish.

Join us and experience how Chef Rico has been influenced by the cuisine of the northern Italian region and enjoy some of his favorite recipes and hopefully, bring an idea or two home. This event is $55 per person with wine pairings, or $42 without. Tax and gratuity are not included. Make your reservations now by calling Avellino at 508-347-2321.

Sleepy Hollow
The Sleepy Hollow Experience
September 27 to November 3
Old Sturbridge Village

Old Sturbridge Village once again joins with producer/director Brian Clowdus to bring The Sleepy Hollow Experience to the Village. Recognized as one of the country's top five Halloween plays by American Theatre Magazine, The Sleepy Hollow Experience is an immersive, outdoor, musical theater experience that reimagines Washington Irving's iconic 1820's tale.

At The Sleepy Hollow Experience, guests will be ghoulishly guided through the Village's countryside where they will encounter Ichabod Crane, Katrina Van Tassel, Brom Bones and quite possibly the Headless Horseman. Please note that each outdoor performance is approximately 1.5 hours long, and requires standing and walking. Performances are rain or shine. If you choose not to come to the show and the performance goes on, there are absolutely no refunds. If a rainout occurs, the show will be rescheduled.

Please visit the Event page for information, show times, tickets and more!
