Author Rosemary Wells Visits Gilles-Sweet
|
We had a very special visitor to Gilles-Sweet on Friday: Rosemary Wells, author and illustrator. She shared her unique process of creating artwork for each of her books such as Max & Ruby and the McDuff series. After the all-school assembly, Mrs. Hyatt's fourth grade students participated in a writer's workshop. What a memorable experience for all students and staff!

Annual Forms Update Reminder

Please log in to your PowerSchool Parent Account and Click Returning Student Registration to update important information and sign off on forms for the year. In order for your student to be assigned their iPad, you must agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Thank you for your attention! Welcome back to school!
We hope everyone is having a smooth transition easing back into their schedules for the new school year. The PTA has been busy planning events and activities, and we hope you will consider joining this year. We have streamlined our membership form this year, so we have one form for all of the PTA units. You have the option to join all, or just one. Membership forms will be going home with each student. We also have the option to join online at
FPPTA.digitalpto.com and pay via paypal (paypal charges a small convenience fee).
Our first meeting is on Monday September 16th at 7pm in the library loft. Babysitting is available, and we encourage everyone to join us!
September is always a big membership month for the PTA, so we want to thank all of our members who have joined and supported the PTA so far. We will be having a week full of raffles (the week of October 7th) and each day that week, 4 students and 1 staff member (who have joined by September 30) will win fun gift cards!

I hope the first full week of school has gone smoothly for all our Fairview families! I have been overjoyed this week watching students become independent young learners from grades kindergarten to twelfth grade!!!:)
If you are noticing some changes in your child now that we are back at school that you are concerned about, please do not hesitate to contact your child's homeroom teacher (grades K-5) or mentor teacher (grades 6-12). They are the best "first" email or call to make!
On September 30th at 6:30 pm at Gilles-Sweet, we will be hosting a Parent University on technology. I am going to have a panel of experts that can help us all (K-12) know the ins and outs of things we should know to protect our children. Here is
a resource I have found that is helpful to all parents (and teachers).

Homework Help at the Fairview Park Library
|
The Fairview Park Library is one of several branches in the Cuyahoga County Public Library system that will once again be offering free, after-school homework help for students in grades K-8. Our homework mentor, Miss P will be returning for her 4th
year to help kids with homework and other assignments.
We will be having an open house on Wednesday, September 18 from 3:30 - 5:30 for families to meet staff and see the space. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact

Support Your School with Box Tops
|
Dear Gilles-Sweet families,
You may have noticed over the summer that some Box Top labels have changed. Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products. You can still clip and send them to school during our October Box Tops collection drive.
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label. To download the app simply visit your app store and download the Box Tops for Education app!
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt.
Box Tops are still worth 10ยข each for our school.
The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online. If you have any questions about how the new Box Tops program works please contact me or click the link to visit the Box Tops for Education website.

Fairview Park Travel Basketball Tryouts
|
Fairview Park Travel Basketball will be holding tryouts for its 2019/2020 teams for boys in grades 3rd, 4th and 5th and girls in grade 4. If you would like to be considered for a team, tryouts will take place on the evenings of Thursday, October 3rd AND Friday, October 4th. There is no cost to tryout. All players must wear non marking shoes and be accompanied by a legal guardian. Please see the flyer or visit
