Ray-Pec community,
Yesterday, I had the chance to see the various ways our schools celebrated Veterans Day, and I am very proud of our students. It was a great display of appreciation and honor. To all of our Ray-Pec graduates, staff members, parents, grandparents, guardians, and community members who have served, or are currently serving, in the armed forces or reserves, thank you for your dedication to our country. It has been said that freedom and national security do not come without a price. Rather, freedom is bought and paid for by the brave men and women in uniform. On behalf of a grateful school community, thank you for that service and bravery.
Next week also marks two events that I want to highlight. One is American Education Week. I urge you to reach out to the staff members at your child’s or children’s schools to let them know how much you appreciate all they are doing. Many professions have been changed over the last 20 months because of the pandemic, and the changes that have been necessary to education have been tremendous. The other is Education Support Professionals Day on Wednesday, Nov. 17. From instructional assistants and paraeducators to office workers, health and student services employees, and food service workers; to custodians, maintenance workers, and bus drivers to school resource officers, technology specialists, and skilled trades workers, today’s support professionals provide invaluable services that enable students to learn in positive, supportive environments.
I have been blessed to get to know so many outstanding educators and support staff team members in this district. I admire our team members for what they have given and continue to give to make this a great year for our Ray-Pec students. Please let them know you appreciate them as well.
Thank you for entrusting your children to the Ray-Pec School District,
Mike Slagle
