From the CEO
Don't miss the opportunity to play a role in educating area middle/high school students about our industry and the many career opportunities it can provide. From architecture/engineering, skilled trades and material/service providers we need all facets of the industry represented. See below for information on being an exhibitor and/or sponsor for both northern and southern Nevada Construction Career Days...

Workforce Development Update:
Nevada Builders, along with other industry associations in the state, continue our workforce development efforts under the BuildNV.org platform. This collaborative effort includes a website as well as printed materials for students, parents, teachers and counselors.
As we continue this dialog, we invite you to engage with us by participating at a school career day, providing classroom speakers, hosting site visits and more. We are making great strides with our local school districts but we need to do more!
The 4th Annual Northern Nevada Construction Career Day will be held on Friday, October 18 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Be sure to mark your calendars and plan to participate in this one-of-a-kind event and provide hands-on activities, demonstrations and/or information to students in Washoe County and surrounding areas. Over 1200 students attended our event last year and we are planning for even more this year! Exhibitor and Sponsorship opportunities are available. For details click

NV OSHA Top 10
Using pro-active safety resources is a much better way to interact with OSHA than receiving a citation. Unfortunately, some Nevada builders managed to contribute to OSHA's Top 10 citations list this past year. Here's Nevada OSHA's Top 10, from October 2017 through September 2018 (like most government statistics, there's about a 1-year publishing delay).

Look at those Fall Protection penalties: roughly $600 thousand out of $1.4 million (or 40%) of penalty dollars addressed working at height. If you have workers over 6 feet off the ground, you need to protect them. Or, consider that OSHA was 70 for 70 in writing a citation when they visited a jobsite for the employer's duty to provide fall protection. Likewise, OSHA wrote a citation at each of the 22 jobsites they visited where lack of employee training was a concern.
Successful contractors know that protecting workers makes business sense. But when businesses can't meet bare minimum protection levels, OSHA can get their attention on the Profit and Loss statement. No one likes to be dragged by the pocketbook to do the right thing. So even if you didn't participate in OSHA's recent Safe + Sound campaign, find an area in your operations to improve the level of safety for your employees.
The PGM Safety Services Team is ready to help you improve your jobsite safety effort. For assistance, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist.

Opioids in the Construction Industry:
Making it You
r Business
From 2011 to 2016, heroin-related overdose deaths in Nevada doubled, t
he crisis is impacting every community
in our state. T
here are close to 200 fatal and non-fatal opioid overdoses in the U.S. every day. That's eight overdoses per hour, including at least two from workers in the construction industry.
RALI Nevada is working to change that reality. Our first collective effort will be on the safe disposal of unused prescription medicines.
You can use a home disposal kit, put unused medications in the included pouch, add water, seal and dispose of it in the trash.
Contact Nevada Builders for Disposal kits to give to your employees.
