A significant portion of the meeting involved the approval of state or county required public disclosures and annual resolutions.  The Board publicly disclosed the collective bargaining agreements entered into with the San Marino Teachers Association, the California School Employees Association #120, unrepresented classified employees and management and administrative employees.  The Board publicly certified the sufficiency of textbooks and instructional materials and approved six resolutions involving routine financial transactions. A renewal of the agreement with the City of San Marino regarding pool use was approved by the Board.  In addition, the Board addressed the following agenda items:
  • International Youth Tobacco Control -- Students from San Marino High School, Huntington Middle School and Arcadia High School made a comprehensive and informative presentation to the Board about the harms of tobacco, including vaping.  In addition to providing statistics about tobacco use among teens and identifying the harms associated with smoking and vaping, the students informed the Board about their efforts to introduce legislation and to promote awareness locally, nationally and internationally.  Click here to view the presentation by Lisa Lu, Kimia Hassibi, Aristotle Zeng, Ryan Qu and Chloe Wong of SMHS, as well as Joyney Lu (HMS) and Coco Wen (Arcadia HS).
IYTC members invited the Board and the San Marino community to attend their "Be Smart, Don't Start" program at the Crowell Public Library on Wednesday, September 18, at 4 p.m.  This free event is designed for children ages 7- 14 and will include mini-lessons about the harms of e-cigarettes, games, prizes, and free donuts for attendees.  Click here to view the flyer.
  • Civility Policy -- After incorporating input from Board and community members, the Board approved a Civility Board Policy to maintain a safe, harassment-free environment and workplace for District students and employees.  While recognizing that there is a right to freedom of expression, "in the interest of presenting District employees as positive role models to the children of this District as well as the community, whether people agree or disagree on various subjects, the District encourages communication that shows respect to the other person in both content and tone, and discourages verbally or physically threatening, hostile and/or aggressive communications toward the other person that could negatively impact students, employees, and the learning environment."

  • Unaudited Actuals Financial Report -- The Board approved the Unaudited Financial Report for the prior fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2019. The Unaudited Financial Report includes all sources of revenues, prior year carry over balances and expenditures by type or classification.  Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Julie Boucher stated that the Board will receive an updated 2019-20 presentation on the budget in the First Interim Report later this year and an official audit report of the 2018-19 school year from the independent audit firm in January.
