Human Resources Course
This extension to the Managing Your 21 st CCLC Program course offers implementation strategies, training tips and tools for program directors, site coordinators and their key staff. Learn nine strategies to build a human resources plan and a strong staff, prepare practitioners for their roles, and retain high-quality staff members.

Developing and Implementing a Safety Plan Click & Go
Program and site leaders can use the mini-lesson, podcasts and tools to make sure their 21stCCLC program has an emergency plan in place, trains staff to implement the plan, informs families about procedures, and supports students' physical and emotional safety.

The waters may be choppy, but with help from veteran program director Johanna Friedel, we're handing novice navigators a compass. Creative Program Ideas
  • October: National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Be smart about cyber safety with these toolkits from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • October 4: Ship in a Bottle Day celebrates the centuries-old skill of creating a miniature, fully rigged ship that sits magically inside a glass bottle. Sailors once made these ships to pass the time on long voyages. Can students guess how? Show them the magic final step. You can find full instructions online if they want to try it themselves!
  • October 13: On this day in 1776, the U.S. Navy was established by an act of Congress. Here's a place to learn about the modern fleet. 
  • October 14: Columbus Day. Learn what forensic archeologists discovered about the collapse of the town Columbus and his crew established.
  • October 16: Dictionary Day. Thumb through a good old paper dictionary and learn a new word today!
  • Deadline November 1: Name NASA's Mars 2020 Rover. K-12 students are invited to name the next Mars Rover. Get their creative juices flowing!
