45 scholarships awarded for first time
The College Heights Foundation, which administers privately funded scholarships for WKU students, awarded 45 scholarships for the first time this fall. These include newly established scholarships or funds that reached endowment level to begin making annual awards. Since its founding in 1923, the College Heights Foundation has grown to include more than 1,300 scholarship funds to directly support WKU students.

The Kathy Collier Memorial Scholarship, one of the newly awarded scholarships, was established by Kathy’s husband, Mark, and their two daughters, Christy Hall and Lori Wilson. Kathy Collier received a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from WKU in 1998.

“We are so happy to honor my wife and the girls’ mother with the Kathy Collier Memorial Scholarship,” said Mark Collier. “We are pleased to know that it will help individuals in the interior design field for years to come as this was Kathy’s passion.”

The inaugural recipient of the Kathy Collier Memorial Scholarship is Hannah Chalfant, a senior from Bowling Green who is pursuing a degree in Interior Design.
WKU Forensics Team hosts tournament
The WKU Forensics Team kicked off its competitive season by hosting the 2020 Fall Forensic Tournament virtually the weekend of Sept. 25-27.

Combining three tournaments into a single weekend, the event offered competition in debate and individual events over three days, hosting 43 schools from 17 states. WKU students competed in the tournament, but as host the team was not eligible for team sweepstakes awards.

“This was one of the largest competitions we’ve hosted in the last few years,” WKU Director of Forensics Ganer Newman said. “Coordinating all of that over video conferencing technology took a tremendous amount of planning and precise execution.”
