On March 20th we will welcome Spring 2018. This Winter has certainly challenged us with the ice and flu and I’m hoping you and your families were not to greatly impacted! Even with that the City welcomed visitors attending the annual Polar Plunge, Mardi Gras & St. Pats Day events. This is just the beginning of the many activities visitors and residents will have available to enjoy around the Lake Area throughout 2018. Construction activities continue in the Arrowhead Centre and Osage Beach Commons developments. Arrowhead's skilled nursing and assisted living facility on Hwy KK (the 1st of the proposed 8 districts in the development) is shaping up nicely. The land has been cleared in preparation for the infrastructure work at Osage Beach Commons. There is a lot of 2nd guessing going on anticipating which new business will reside in the proposed 131,000 sq. ft. of retail space. I will say, it is still very early in the process to answer the “who” questions!
Also, Tan Tar A is undergoing its renovation and rebranding to be Tan-Tar-A, a Margaritaville Resort proposed for completion in 2019. While the resort is not located in our city limits the Margaritaville name and the many new guests it will attract will have a significant impact on our business community.

With the first quarter of 2018 mostly behind us, the City is gearing up for sunshine and warmer days! The Parks Department is in full preparation mode for baseball season for the kiddos as well as launching our 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Osage Beach City Park on March 31st, one of the largest Easter egg hunts in the area! The Public Works Department has several road and utility projects that will add great value to our community, ready to go this spring/early summer as well. More information from these departments are included in the newsletter!
Operationally, the City is moving right along. February financial statements show we have expended $2.9 million of our $28.5 million FY2018 Operating Budget, or 9.67% to date. Overall, the City has collected 13.85% of budgeted revenues. Sales Tax revenue represents a majority of the City’s revenue source, 57% projected in the FY2018 overall budget, with Fees & Service Charges coming in second, at 35%. The year-to-date Sales Tax receipts for March are $62,822 (5.7%) less than 2017 receipts for the same period and $27,661 (2.6%) less that projected in the FY2018 Budget. View the latest Sales Tax Report HERE. The year seems to be off to a slow start; however, it is still early in our fiscal year and our busier months of the year are ahead of us.
My office is committed to effectively managing the day to day operations and to the responsible management of our budget. However, this would not be possible without all the experienced and dedicated employees of the City and the direction of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. We are dedicated to being good stewards of our community and will continue to operate efficiently to deliver superior municipal services to our citizens and visitors. It’s that time of year to begin a new season of baseball and softball in the lake area!
Osage Beach Parks and Recreation (OBPR) and OYAC will be partnering for the 2018 season. 6U and 8U will be run by OYAC and 10U+ will be run by OBPR. With changes this year we are very positive about the transition and are looking forward to a great 2018 season!

DISCOVER NATURE
FISHING CLINIC

Osage Beach Parks and Recreation will be co-sponsoring Discover Nature Fishing Clinic with the Missouri Department of Conservation this year!
This free fishing program helps Missourians gain skills and confidence to go fishing on their own and provides all equipment needed!
There will be four classes offered and you must take the first lesson before registering for any one of the other three.

Line Drives at the Lake Slow Pitch Cash Tournament will be held April 21st – 22nd at Osage Beach City Park.
Men’s and women’s tournament will play on Saturday and coed will play on Sunday.
Homerun bracelets will be sold for $25 – one per team and good all day.

Cynthia Lambert
Received her Certified Municipal Officials certification.
This certification is sponsored by the Missouri Municipal League (MML) Governance Institute.
Participants must complete 12 hours of study in core areas and 4 hours of elective training. The program is open to both elected and appointed municipal officials and utilizes existing MML training opportunities, such as conferences and online training, as well as specialized crafted workshops to provide meaningful and useful information.

2018 Missouri Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (MoAPCO) Director of the Year!
On March 6th at the annual conference in St. Louis, Kwabena was presented with this award for which his staff nominated him for.
When choosing the Director of the Year, the nomination committee takes into consideration the individual's involvement with MoAPCO, MoNENA and 911 Directors Association as well as what they have achieved for their Department.
Some of Kwabena's many achievements include 2nd Vice President of MoNENA; established OBPD's Communication Center as the first in the state of Missouri to have Text2911 capabilities; implemented a siren voice system and procedures for Bagnell Dam; Communication's Director for 2018 Can/Am Games and many more.
Congrats Kwabena!

Each night will feature different departments with a valuable overview of the topics valuable to citizens, show-and-tell pertaining to the department and tours of facilities were applicable.
Sessions will be held on each MONDAY between April 23 - May 21, 6 pm - 8 pm. Participants are expected to sign up for the entire five-night academy.

As many of you know, tornado season is mid-March through late June. Tornadoes can happen anywhere, but they are more common in some parts of the country than others. Many areas in the State of Missouri lie in the path of what is commonly known as tornado alley. Camden County sits along the eastern edge of the valley. We average approximately two confirmed tornadoes every three years. It is extremely important for all of us to be prepared no matter where we are.

Updates From Your Public Works Department
|
|
We’ve gone out for bids for many seal coating and overlay projects for the spring. We will be overlaying Barry Prewitt Drive this spring, from Osage Beach Parkway to near Ozark Garden Apartments. We’ll also be Micro-surfacing Osage Beach Parkway West from the Grand Glaize Bridge to Lazy Days Rd. This Parkway improvement will be completed at night. Also, on schedule is the slurry seal of Dude Ranch Rd and its side streets. Fawn Ct, Arrow Rd and Sleepy Hollow off Airport Rd will also be sealed.
The reconstruction project on Mace Rd includes lowering of the water and sewer lines between Aver Rd and the end of Mace Rd. This lowering of utilities will begin soon.
Please watch for upcoming public service announcements on these City street upgrades.
We will be going out for bids soon on additional water tower cleaning and painting projects. Our next beautifications include painting Columbia College Tower and cleaning Bluff Tower and Swiss Village Tower.
A flurry of courtesy Backflow letters will be arriving soon to many mailboxes. Most tests for irrigation and doc systems are due in the spring. If you have any questions about Backflow testing, please call Public Works at 302-2020.
The Public Works Department accepts used motor oil. Please feel free to drop off used, clean motor oil in containers at the Public Works Building at 5757 Chapel Drive.
