Chamber Celebrates Housing Trust Fund's South Coast Workforce Homebuyer Program Launch

The Chamber of Commerce is proud to support the launch of the South Coast Workforce Homebuyer Program, an initiative that has long been championed by the Chamber and several local business leaders. Kristen Miller, President & CEO of the Goleta Chamber of Commerce, has been a long-time board member of the Housing Trust Fund of Santa Barbara County and was thrilled to kick off the event on September 27th.

The need for workforce housing has consistently been among the top three concerns expressed by our Chamber membership. Without housing affordable to the local workforce our employers cannot recruit and retain top quality personnel needed to maintain our region's economic competitiveness. "We are so excited about the launch of the South Coast Workforce Homebuyer Program," said Kristen Miller, President & CEO, Goleta Chamber of Commerce. "It is an important new tool in our 'toolkit' of local workforce housing solutions."

The Goleta Chamber of Commerce wholeheartedly supports and endorses this unique and innovative program that will help expand homeownership opportunities for local employees in South Santa Barbara County.

The South Coast Workforce Homebuyer Program expands homeownership opportunities needed to attract and retain the next generation of quality employees who provide our South County region with essential services needed for sustainable economic growth and vibrant communities.

Using an initial $2.5 million in investment capital, the Housing Trust Fund will provide qualified first-time homebuyers with a low-cost down payment loan up to 16.5% of the home purchase price, or a maximum loan of $100,000.  The homebuyer must contribute a minimum of 3.5% of the home purchase price. The secondary loan, combined with the homebuyer's resources will achieve a 20% down payment and enables the homebuyer to purchase an entry-level single-family home or condominium with Conventional Financing, thus avoiding expensive FHA insurance.
