Girl Scouts Learn What it Takes for an Incident Response Team Karen Ribble from Augusta University developed the Girl Scouts Cyber Challenge - the Girl Scouts of the USA’s first-ever national STEM challenge event, developed and sponsored by Raytheon. This cybersecurity education innovation won the 2020 National CyberWatch Center award for Instruction. This program is a smart choice for university communities to introduce more girls to the STEM and Cybersecurity fields and gives them a glimpse of a “real-world” experience in a facility designed for teamwork. Recruiting Women to Cybersecurity Webcast In this webcast, Donna Milgram will show you how two schools boosted female (and male) enrollments in Cybersecurity and IT programs after attending a WomenTech Educators Training, and how you can apply these techniques to boost (and retain) similar enrollments in your programs: Fayetteville Technical Community College doubled female enrollment in their Cybersecurity program in only 5 months - from 12 to 22 women. Male enrollment also increased from 58 to 101 Broward College increased female enrollment in their IT & Computer Science Department (including Cybersecurity) - by 77 women in a year’s time. Male enrollment increased from 751 to 1009 Register  HERE .

Kellogg Community College Adds Cybersecurity Program As more professionals are working from home now more than ever, the need for cybersecurity professionals is continuing to rise. This fall, Kellogg Community College, a National CyberWatch member, is starting a new 62 credit Associate in Applied Science in CyberSecurity degree program. Graduates of this program will be positioned for immediate work or the potential of transferring to a four-year university for more advanced level course work. Read more HERE .

Verizon’s 2020 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) This year’s ~120 page report analyses data from 80+ contributors from all over the world. “This year, we analyzed a record total of 157,525 incidents. Of those, 32,002 met our quality standards and 3,950 were confirmed data breaches”. A few interesting highlights: 70% of reported breaches were perpetrated by external actors A majority of breaches do not just involve a dropped trojan 86% of breaches were financially motivated 81% of breaches were contained in days or less Read the full report HERE .

SANS Institute’s Cyber Workforce Academy Maryland is currently accepting applications! This accelerated cybersecurity training program is 100% scholarship-based and provides Maryland residents with advanced technical training, industry-recognized GIAC certifications, and highly sought-after cybersecurity skills that provide a pathway into the cybersecurity workforce. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with multiple cohorts running throughout the year. The next Academy begins in July 2020.
