Saturday, October 5
Month of "May I?"
Serving our Community
Serving Opportunities for Everyone

On Saturday, October 5, the pumpkins arrive! You can help by:
  • Arrive at 7:30am to make breakfast tacos and ice down water for volunteers. This opportunity to serve will take the place of the usual Men's Breakfast. (... and there's still food and fellowship!)
  • Arrive at 9am, to unload the truck and stack pumpkins. We also need wagons and wheelbarrows. The more people we have the quicker and easier it will go.
  • We will also need tables set up and marked for small pumpkins and gourds, as well as set-up of a photo background area.
  • Arrive at 10am to make sandwiches and restock water for volunteers.
You can sign up on VOMO here for all of these needs, and get community service hours towards gift cards and/or for school.
Bringing friends is encouraged!

This will be the third year that South Austin has had a Pumpkin Patch on Manchaca Road. The pumpkins are delivered in a semi truck from the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico on the first Saturday in October, and as soon as we unload, the Pumpkin Patch is open for business daily from 12 pm to 8pm. Pumpkins are priced by size using a special marked measuring tape, except for the small pumpkins and gourds, which are marked by table. 33% of the sales and 100% of donations stay right here to buy 300+ Thanksgiving turkeys and sides for South Austin families in need. These dinners are distributed the week of Thanksgiving through our Food Pantry.

None of this would be possible without volunteers and our community! We are ALL blessed by the generosity of South Austin in giving their time and money to help others and meet their neighbors. Our pumpkins are a little more expensive than most stores but most understand the far-reaching benefits and LOVE the pumpkin patch experience!
Working with neighbors to meet a common goal creates a true community!

More ways to help in October!
  • Before October 5, we need a volunteer to pick up 15 hay bales from Callahan's. See Vanessa for more info.
  • October 5 to 31 Daily from 12pm to 8pm, we need volunteers to sell pumpkins. You can sign up on VOMO here (and get service hours). At least one adult is needed per 2-hour shift. Friends and teens are welcome to help. Great opportunity to invite people to serve with you at church and buy them a coffee! Instructions and supplies for transactions are provided.

PLEASE TAKE AT LEAST ONE 2-HOUR SHIFT PER FAMILY.
