News of the Parish
New Financial Administrator Hired, Farewell to Debbi Huelsman
I am pleased to announce that Laurie Lawther will be joining St. John's Church as our Financial Administrator on June 4. A graduate of the University of South Florida, Laurie has previous experience as an office manager and bookkeeper for a public accounting firm and another Episcopal Church. She is experienced in all aspects of Realm, our data base and financial management system, and familiar with reporting requirements for the Vestry and the diocese. Please join me in welcoming Laurie to the St. John's family.

It is with sadness, gratitude, and joy that we will say farewell to Debbi Huelsman, our Financial Administrator for the past fifteen years. Debbi has been an integral and important part of our team, providing financial guidance and assistance to our staff and parishioners. Her involvement and leadership in our stewardship campaigns, annual budget development, conduct of the relationship with our diocesan partners, and to the ongoing management of our financial affairs has been invaluable. Debbi's teenagers, Max and Mia, are both graduates of St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School where Debbi was very active as a parent volunteer. She will be deeply missed by both the Church and School communities. I know you join me in wishing Debbi the very best in the next phase of her life.

Worship In Person Resumes This Sunday
We will resume in-person services with appropriate controls in place this week on Trinity Sunday, June 7. The services will be said Morning Prayer at 8:00 a.m. and Choral Morning Prayer, or Matins, at 10:00 a.m. The 10:00 a.m. service will be streamed on Facebook. We will continue to offer services of Morning Prayer on Sundays until it is safe to resume the distribution of Communion.

Safe distancing procedures will be in place for entering, seating, and exiting. Safe distancing in seating results in a maximum capacity of 100 people at each service. Face coverings are highly recommended, not only for your safety, but for the safety of others. While all will be welcomed, we recommend that those parishioners over age 65 and those with underlying health conditions consider remaining safe at home and participating comfortably in the streamed service.

Sunday School for children will continue to be conducted virtually. For information on how to participate, please contact Ayana Grady at agrady@stjohnstampa.org . The nursery will remain closed.
Enquirers Class Finale
The Enquirers Class of 2020 had its final session on the Day of Pentecost. Vestry members gave presentations on their commissions and shared encouraging words.  Congratulations to all who participated!
Welcome is the second major habit of the Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry. We both take our lead from Jesus and encounter Jesus in the habit of welcoming. Jesus was curious about others and sought them out. He looked at those different from himself and noticed them instead of avoiding them. He saw in those different from himself the "possibility of blessing." This is certainly contrary to the "don't talk to strangers" and "stay in your lane" attitudes that are often prevalent today. Opening ourselves up to others is an investment of time and energy, of listening to and getting to know someone new.  Welcoming is opening up space in our hearts to love that person. Indeed, in such encounters, the world can be made new. As a church family, we are encouraged to ponder what it would be like to have a church that truly sees each other.

New 1, 2, 3 Challenge from the Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry:
  • Share 1 story of welcome
  • Meet 2 new parishioners
  • Give 3 ideas that can make St. John's even more welcoming
Send your responses to Fr. Michael at mcannon@stjohntampa.org.
Joyful Baptism!
Louisa Corral was baptized in the Chapel of the Resurrection on the Day of Pentecost by Fr. Michael. Louisa is the daughter of Thomas and Kate Light.
Sandwich Sunday Continues!
Sandwich Sunday, our outreach project for Faith Cafe, continues in spite of our current challenges! In April, John and Tricia McKay made the lunches from their home, and delivered them. In May, David and Cindy Martin did the same. When delivered, they were very much appreciated! Questions about Sandwich Sunday? Contact Cindy Martin at cdmcasa@gmail.com.

Action Items and Opportunities
Exploring Love INC Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested, RSVP by July 17 to: Ann M. Doyle at adoyle@loveinctampa.org or 541.7366, or contact Deacon Kathleen at 785.9400 for more information.

Sunday's Scripture Snippet

At this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?"
