On Monday we will be distributing student progress reports for the 1st quarter. If you have a student attending Lake Nona, please take the time to review your child's progress as soon as possible. As I have written in this space before, we offer an excellent free tutoring program to any of our Knights needing additional help, but they need to take advantage of it sooner vs. later as these weeks are already passing so quickly.

Speaking of weeks passing quickly, Monday is also our final home soccer game of the regular season. It you can, please come on out and cheer on the Knights as they face the Wildcats of South Creek Middle School. Go Knights!

Thank you for looking over this latest issue and best wishes for a successful week ahead.

With Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.

Knight Music

The LNMS boys choir has been invited to pilot a new music education program at Universal Studios on, Thursday, September 19th.

This program will provide a musical experience where students will learn how music of all forms, whether by voice or musical instruments, connects what we see with what we feel. They will also have the opportunity to work with Universal Studios producers and sound technicians to experience life as a working studio musician for movie making.

* Members of our boys choir are pictured in a classroom setting at the very top of this issue.

Knight Sports
The last home game of the regular season is Monday against South Creek starting at 5:30pm. On Wednesday our Knights play away at Walker Middle School at 5pm.

Monday vs. Westridge
Both of our soccer teams traveled to Westridge last Monday for their second games of the season. With the ladies tremendous display of teamwork and ball movement they were able to set the tempo early on in the game. They defeated Westridge 4-0. Goals for the Lady Knights were scored by Madeline Oehlers, Angelina Munoz, Cynthia McCauley, and Pamela Abraham.

The second game of the night just did not go in our favor as our gentlemen lost a close one with a score of 1-0.

Wednesday vs. Freedom
The Lady Knights got a lead on Freedom early on in the game holding the score at 1-0 for much of it. However, things got interesting when Freedom tied the game with only minutes left in the second half. We went on to overtime where our Ladies Knights triumphed in penalty kicks. These ladies are currently tied for first place in the division, remaining undefeated. Keep up the good work!

Our gentlemen had a point to prove and were on a mission this game. After two devastating losses and knowing that another loss could mean they do not qualify for playoffs, they knew what was at stake. Within the first couple of minutes our gentlemen came out firing with intensity and looked like a completely different team than what we had seen in prior games.  After 5 minutes of play we had scored two goals against the defending County Champions. The first goal was scored by 8th grader Pedro Nunez with a nice assist coming from 6th grader Santiago Guedez. The second goal, less than a few minutes after the first came from 8th grader Javier Ortega. At the half our team was going into the second part of this game with a comfortable lead that they were able to maintain. Our Knights defeated Freedom  4-1!

Knights and their Media Center
The Media Center is our campus hub and is used for a wide variety of student educational and social activities.

We are proud of the fact that the LNMS media center is a place where students feel comfortable and want to be for researching or playing games. The students use the variety of resources constantly. Whether it is before school, after school, during lunch periods or with an academic class, the media center is always full of energy and learning. Below are a few snapshots of student engagement taken over recent days by Ms. Powers, LNMS Media Specialist.

Knight Yearbooks and Spirit Week
Special Promotion for National Yearbook Week: Oct. 7-11

Buy a yearbook online between October 4-13 and be automatically entered to win 1 of 5 Canon PowerShot digital cameras - https://www.jostens.com/yeabooks/natlyrbk.html

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared the week of October 4 each year as "National Yearbook Week." For nearly two centuries American students have produced yearbooks to commemorate the accomplishments of the school year and to compose a lasting record, written and pictorial, of campus, classmates, teachers and school staff.

During National Yearbook Week our school will also celebrate Spirit Week, October 7-11, where students can follow a dress theme each day, be creative and have fun.

Monday, October 7 is Country Colors - wear a shirt or colors representing the country of your heritage

Tuesday, October 8 is Twin Day - dress up like your best friend

Wednesday, October 9 - we are going western - wear your best country outfit

Thursday, October 10 - throwback decades - dress up in your favorite 60's, 70's, 80's outfit or favorite childhood character

Friday, October 11 - school colors - wear your favorite school shirt or school colors
