Final Friday hosted Coalition for the Homeless on July 26

Nancy Heintz, Project Manager for Montgomery County with the Houston Coalition For The Homeless, was our guest. Nancy is involved with many aspects of working in the homeless service system. Nancy detailed the over 3800 homeless folks living in and around Conroe TX. A shocking amount especially considering the number of veterans in those numbers. Nancy was introduced by Carl White (currently running for Conroe City council. Next month's Final Friday will be on August 30.
At the CEC Meeting: New Precinct Chairs Sworn, New Candidate for Sheriff

Three new precinct chairs were sworn in by Marc Meyers at the County Executive Meeting meeting on Tuesday, July 23. They are Karen Cavanagh in Precinct 6, Chris Powell in Precinct 2 and Via Rocketter in Precinct 96. Congratulation to these new Chairpersons!

Steve Leakey from the Voter Awareness Council gave a presentation on the new Countywide Voting Centers. This legislation authorizing implementation of Countywide voting centers so registered voters may vote at any polling location open for operation.

County Wide Voting Centers Proposed

Steve Leakey of the Montgomery County Voter Awareness presented a Resolution in support of implementing County Wide Voting Centers in Montgomery County at the CEC meeting on Tuesday, July 23. As currently proposed, the County Wide Voting Centers would allow any registered voter to vote on election day at any open polling location instead of only being able to vote at their own local precinct. It is the intent of the proposal to increase voter turnout across the county by making it more convenient to vote.
This resolution may be considered for adoption at the next CEC meeting on October 8, 2019. The complete resolution is attached below. For additional information you may contact Steve Leakey at the Voter Awareness Council ( spleakey@yahoo.com).
Cleaning Day was a success

Thanks to all who showed up to help make the backroom and the supply shelves something we can actually use.

BOUND FOR THE THIRD DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN HOUSTON?

The 2020 Democratic presidential contest is headed to Houston, Texas, for the third televised debate of the Party’s primary campaign on September 12 th and 13 th . The debate is being sponsored by ABC News and Univision and will be hosted by Texas Southern University.
And while the time and place have been set, it is still not clear how to get tickets to the debate, but as soon as we know, you will know too!
We are also exploring the possibility of chartering a bus to get all our local ticket holders to the debates. If we keep the transportation and parking costs low, maybe more of us can afford debate tickets if they become available to the public.  Pick up spots would be planned for Conroe and The Woodlands. What an amazing opportunity!
Watch this spot for more information!

  VOTER ALERT!
CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION STATUS!!

In this time of aggressive voter purges, internet hacking, and various forms of voter suppression, it is extremely important to confirm that your registration status is current and active. Texas is among the states that enforces voter suspension and purging of "inactive" or voters. In Montgomery County alone, there are over 44,000 voter files which have been marked for suspension and eventual purging. For various reasons you may have had your registration suspended. Reasons may include moving without updating your information, not voting in the previous 2 elections, or having mail returned as undeliverable to the Elections administration.

Don't miss out on your right to vote. You may use these links to check your voter registration status to confirm you are up-to-date, to be sure you have the required form(s) of ID to cast your ballot, to find your precinct # and voting locations as well as a SAMPLE BALLOT for your precinct.
