University campuses are quiet during the summer, but not without productive activity. Used properly, June through August is a fleeting chance to catch up from Spring semester and plan the year ahead.

We're excited to have ABC News veteran John Qui ñones as our keynote speaker at the annual two-day Diversity Forum on Nov. 5 and 6 at Union South. The host of the news series 'What Would You Do?' which features unsuspecting subjects' public reaction to staged ethical situations, will set the tone for our discussion. We're going to take a hard look at ethics and diversity in contemporary times both on campus and in America. Nominations for the 2019 cohort of Outstanding Women of Color are due on Sept. 20. In a campus tradition dating back to 2007, the award honors women of color among UW-Madison faculty, staff, students (undergraduate and post-baccalaureate) and in the greater Madison community, who are deeply rooted in the campus and community through their work for social justice, service, research and community building. Please submit your nomination today.

This fall, we'll welcome promoted and newly-hired faculty members at our annual Faculty of Color Reception on Sept. 24 in Memorial Union's Tripp Commons from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is open to the campus and public. Please plan to join us and bring a colleague or friend.

UW-Madison is welcoming another 80 Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) first-year College Scholars this fall and another 157 high school seniors are ready to apply for admission. This summer, 19 students from the division’s programs journeyed abroad to experience other cultures, learn languages, explore world history and discover how “foreign” is a relative term. The DDEEA Global Scholars Program has helped more than 70 scholars pursue international studies since the program launched with 14 students in the summer of 2017.
