Jesus told them this parable: "Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, `Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

This Week at Christ Church
Today Is Shepherding Sunday School for Parents and Children 11:15-12 Noon   Please join Ann Enkiri and Cindy Winder in the front of the Parish Hall after the 10 AM Service. This launch of our Sunday School program for children ages 3 years through Grade 5 brings children, parents, and teachers together to learn about Jesus, Our Good Shepherd. The format features the 4 S's: Snack (with coffee for adults), Song, Story -- Godly Play telling of the Parable of the Good Shepherd, and Service (brainstorm children's service activities). All are welcome to join us and experience how Sunday School impacts our lives beyond church!
 
Today’s Blessing of Students, Teachers and Parents    At the Final Blessing, Emily will call forward our Youth Group students and leaders along with our children with their families and Sunday School teachers. Together, we will ask God’s blessing upon them as a new school year of intentional Christian learning and loving service begins. Following the blessing, these students and adults are asked to please follow the First Cross for dismissal as the Final Hymn begins. Youth Group will meet in the Loft. Sunday School will meet in the Parish Hall.
 
Middle/high school youth and their parents are cordially invited to a kickoff brunch in the youth loft ! Come meet Madi and Kitty, fearless leaders of youth, and say hey to your church friends after a long summer away. We’ll introduce this year’s curriculum topic and take a poll for our fall outing as well. New to the group? We’ve got a warm welcome and a special surprise waiting for you! Welcome Hope! This Sunday we welcome our new seminarian Hope Christensen, who is currently in the ordination process for the priesthood in the Diocese of Washington. With a deep passion for advocacy with marginalized people, Hope has worked in social services for over 15 years. She was recently named the Administrative Director of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Institute in Washington, DC, and will soon be stepping down from her role at SEEC, where she served persons with disabilities in different advocacy and administrative capacities. Hope was raised in Seattle and made her way to the DC metro area by way of KY, TN and NC. She holds a B.A. from the Univ. of North Carolina at Greensboro. This September, Hope started her 2nd year at Bexley Seabury Episcopal Seminary in Chicago. She lives in PG county with her wife Lauren, a social worker in the DC Courts, their two cats, and a newly adopted greyhound. Please welcome Hope to the Christ Church community.

From Your Vestry: On the Retreat and Moving Forward    The vestry’s mid-August retreat produced a set of exciting goals and objectives as well as a welcome time of fellowship and spiritual renewal. In brief the vestry agreed that Christ Church be a beacon, well known for living key Christian values – engaging community outreach programs that show Christian love in action, an appealing Sunday morning experience with an expanded adult forum program, and increasing connection and engagement with all comers. Achieving this vision means enriching existing activities and launching new initiatives. More information to come! The retreat was generously hosted by the Quinns at their home in The Woods community in West Virginia.

Craft and Cake Group will continue on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM   Please join us every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month for fellowship, “Crafting & Cake.” Bring a craft... join some friends... have some cake. Come join us for 30 minutes after work to pray!   Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., some of us come together for a brief time of Evening Prayer with Holy Eucharist. It combines the end-of-the day liturgy with familiar prayers and a time for personal meditation and communion. Doors open at 6pm. Dinner is at 6:30pm; Last auction bids at 8pm. We are planning a delicious Tex Mex Feast of Chicken/Shrimp/Beed Fajitas with your favorite Tex Mex Fixin’s.

Cost is $20 (individual) and $40 family (up to four people). Sangria and Mexican Beer will be available for a small donation. Silent Auction items will continue to be accepted until September 15th.

Blessing of the Animals – Sunday, October 6 at 4pm
Calling all animals in Celebration of St. Francis of Assisi, animals are welcome to bring their humans to the annual Blessing of Animals! Come to the courtyard for a brief service of prayers, blessings, a hymn, and a treat (or two) and stay for the 5pm Eucharist.    
 
3rd Annual “Kenya Night” for Nyumbani - Saturday, October 29 at 6-9:30pm in the Undercroft  The Outreach Committee invites you to a night of sheer fun for all ages - dinner and dancing with a Kenyan flair, a Kenyan craft boutique, children’s crafts, raffles and more!  Nyumbani is an orphanage in Kenya that supports children and caregivers infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Funds raised will be used to build a new greenhouse to grow fresh vegetables for the children and caregivers. Make a reservation at www.ccpk.org   Questions?
