Stewarding the Earth

BODY-NOV-ENG.png

Travelling from South America to Europe, to Marseille and above all – that long journey to bring a proposal that contains our hope, our dream, and most importantly that constant struggle, where we fight daily to defend our Mother the Amazon Forest – a battle that takes many lives.

Following the recent Glasgow Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP26) and noting the IUCN World Conservation Congress’ approval of the COICA-sponsored emergency motion to protect 80% of the Amazon by 2025 (or 80 x 25) last September:

Engage the real changemakers today

At the recent UNFCCC COP26, Gregorio Mirabal - COICA’s General Coordinator - calls for the international community to support the 80 x 25 motion to avoid the point of no return.

Last September at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, in a historic move for indigenous peoples and the international conservation movement, IUCN members passed the COICA-sponsored Motion 129 - Avoiding the point of no return in the Amazon protecting 80% by 2025. A call to  mobilise partnerships – and support for the Global Call to protect 80% of the Amazon, safeguarding forests and people – was also included in the Global Indigenous Agenda for the Governance of Indigenous Lands, Territories, Waters, Coastal Seas and Natural Resources, launched by the IUCN Indigenous Peoples Organisation members at the World Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nature.
