Hello!

We hope you've had a successful first couple of weeks of classes! As you begin settling into a routine for the semester, we encourage you to take advantage of all the resources that Tulane has to offer. This Navigator E-Newsletter will highlight some fun events happening on campus, as well as important resources to help you stay connected and cared for as you transition into life at Tulane.

New Student Orientation and Fall Welcome seem like they were just yesterday. Did you try something new like Labor Day Tubing? Spend some late nights chatting with your roommate about professors? Did you get the chance to meet some student organizations at the Fall Activities Expo? Or did you find your own flow this month? Let us know what your favorite experience and/or memory has been from these past few weeks.

P lease reach out to us if you have any questions. We're available by phone at (504) 865-5180 or email at orientation@tulane.edu. And -- now that you're here on campus -- feel free to stop by Suite G11 in the Student Organizations Center (also known as the "SOC") in the LBC. You're always welcome!

Tips from the PAs: Adjusting to Tulane
Hello, First Years, it's us again! Anfernee and Drew are back with some thoughts on Tulane, the college transition, and the importance of office hours. Since both of us are recent graduates of Tulane (yes, we were once in your shoes, too), we feel that we're uniquely qualified to offer some advice.

  • Stay grounded in yourself! Your college experience is your own. You have your own interests, ideas, and ambitions, so your path is individual to you, too. If you're feeling homesick, overwhelmed, or unsure, know that feeling that way is completely normal and okay (we've definitely felt that way on more than one occasion), and sometimes a little time is all you need. Take some pressure off yourself to do certain things by a certain time, and enjoy the wild journey college takes you on!
  • Have no fear, professors are here (to help)! We know you've probably heard this advice a dozen times already, but it's so true. Your professors really do care about your success and want to help you. They notice when you show up to office hours and class prepared (or not at all). Remember, though they may have a fancy title or scary office, they're actually regular people, and they work in this field to share their knowledge and help others. And when it comes time to ask for career advice or get a letter of recommendation, this connection might make all the difference.
  • Explore, explore, explore! These next few years will be full of growth for everyone, and sometimes having the courage to do something unfamiliar will open up doors for you and shift the course of your career. (Trust us, taking an intriguing class in a different discipline, joining a new organization, or auditioning for a show or performance group can literally change your life.)
