ADULT FORMATION
God in America
Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Youth/MPR
Despite American devotion to the separation of church and state, religion and religious dissidents have played a crucial role in the development of our nation. This six-week course traces the history and struggles to define religious liberty, from the arrival of the Puritans to the religious issues of the present day, using historical dramatizations, archival footage and interviews with religious historians. The course will also include an additional session of the Early Episcopal Church - how it was founded, why it was founded and the struggles that early Episcopalians had in gaining independence from the church of England. The course will be offered to begin Wednesday, September 11 (a day which marked a dramatic change in how people view God and religion in America).
What is an Episcopalian?
Wednesdays, September 18-October 16, 6-8 p.m., South Parish Hall
These evening sessions are designed for anyone new to St. Bart's or the Episcopal Church as well as long time members who are interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church and have an opportunity to ask questions (including questions about faith itself). We will cover topics such as history, spirituality and liturgy, music in workshop, and mission. In addition if folks are interested in Confirmation or Reception into the Episcopal Church, or to reaffirm their baptismal vows when Bishop Susan Brown Snook visits on March 1, 2020 at the 10:15 a.m. service, this class provides a good foundation. If you are interested, sign up in the courtyard this weekend or contact the Rev. Canon Allisyn Thomas with questions.

Each class will begin with a light supper. You are invited to attend individual sessions if a particular topic is of interest. Below is the class schedule:
September 18 - Introduction to Holy Scripture with the Rev. Bill Zettinger
September 25 - Liturgy and Music with John-Luke Addison, Director of Music
October 2 - A Very Brief History of the Church with the Rev. Canon Allisyn Thomas
October 9 - Anglican Spirituality with the Rev. Canon Allisyn Thomas

Men's Bible Study
Fridays, beginning September 20, 7:45-9 a.m., Church Office
Men sharing scripture and faith journeys in our daily lives. Join us as we read, discuss, explore The Jesus I Never Knew by Phillip Yancy - book and study guide available on Amazon . “There is no writer in the evangelical world that I admire and appreciate more,” Billy Graham. Philip Yancey helps reveal what two thousand years of history covered up. What happens when a respected Christian journalist decides to put his preconceptions aside and take a long look at the Jesus described in the Gospels? How does the Jesus of the New Testament compare to the “new, rediscovered” Jesus—or even the Jesus we think we know so well?
Women's Bible Study
Wednesdays, beginning September 18, 6-7:30 p.m., Church Office
