Council Approves Parking Mitigation Measures

On August 19, the City Council approved a plan to address the temporary shortage of parking during construction of the Village at Burlingame on City-owned parking lots F and N, in the downtown area just south of Howard Avenue. Parking mitigation measures will include:

  • procurement of valet-assisted parking services in certain City-owned parking lots, which will enable double parking and add more parking spaces;
  • lease of space in the Caltrain parking lot at the Burlingame Avenue station; and,
  • coordination with the Burlingame Downtown Business Improvement District (DBID) to create an employee incentive program to encourage alternative modes of transportation and to reduce demand for parking.

The Village at Burlingame development will include 132 senior and workforce housing units, and a 368-space, multi-level, state-of-the-art public parking garage. Construction is expected to begin this fall.

The City appreciates your patience during construction and encourages use of alternative modes of transportation to get downtown. The City is working with the merchants, DBID, and the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce to identify additional measures and solutions.

Memory Cafe is Coming to Burlingame
First Wednesday of Every Month, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Trousdale Wellness Center, 1875 Trousdale Dr., Burlingame

A Memory Cafe is a wonderfully welcoming place for individuals with memory loss and their care providers. The challenges of living with memory loss can sever social connections at a time when they are needed most. Memory cafe gatherings are one way people with memory loss and their care partners are coming together to make new friendships and support one another. A Memory Cafe is a safe and comfortable space where care providers and their loved ones can socialize, listen to music, play games, and enjoy other appropriate activities. A Memory Cafe is not a place to “drop off” your loved one for awhile, but a way to enjoy activities with them as a break from the normal routine.

This event is hosted by the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department, the Peninsula Health Care District, and Catholic Charities Aging Support Services. Light refreshments, socializing, and an optional activity will be part of the program. RSVP is requested, but not required, and can be made by calling the Recreation Center at 650-558-7300.
