Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Dear Hart Families,

You would never know this was a short week here at Hart.  Students and teachers have settled into a routine. Teaching and learning is evident all over the building. I am so proud of how hard our students are working, and of course how much time and energy our teachers put into planning engaging, rigorous lessons for their students.

Today we had our practice Hart Beat. We can't wait to share some of the changes and new features at our first official Hart Beat next Friday, Sept. 13 at 8:15. As always, we invite parents to join at Hart Beat as we celebrate students and grade levels, dance, and have fun!

Parents are also invited to join us for the Teacher Talent Show after Hart Beat on Friday, Sept. 13 in the cafeteria. This is our opportunity to celebrate all the reading students did over the summer.

Thank you for your patience as we get Seesaw up and running this year. The latest report is that we could be able to post as soon as TODAY! I know our teachers have really come to rely on this tool for communicating with you - they are ready to start posting and keeping you updated as soon as they get the green light that all issues have been resolved.

With a Full HeART,
Lacey Moser

The Internet can be wonderful for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games. Of course, as our world becomes increasingly digital, our challenges, rights, and responsibilities are changing too. Teaching students about digital citizenship and internet safety is more important than ever.
Teachers reinforce internet safety and digital citizenship during the first two weeks of school and throughout the year.  Conversations around digital safety need to start happening at a young age and one discussion isn't enough. It is important to model positive screen time behaviors and help your child learn how to decipher what is real and what is not on the internet.  The district is providing tips for students.  Please click here to see tips.

In addition to educating the students we would like to create awareness and tips to help parents keep kids safe online. Willow Springs PTA invites you to join them on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. for a presentation titled "Keeping our kids safe online" by Summar Thomas-Masby, Community Educator at Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County. Parents will learn tips on how to protect children as they navigate the digital world, cover the four biggest risks for children for children online and conversations you need to have with them and recommendations on how to utilize technology to better protect your children. Please contact Rhonda Tiedt, rjtiedt@yahoo.com with any questions regarding the presentation.

Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 at SCIS. All students have had a chance to visit the library and check out books this week!  Students are choosing books of their choice to read in class and/or at home. Check with your child to see what books they checked out! We know reading every day shows a strong correlation to vocabulary expansion, memory improvement, stress relief, improved focus, stronger writing skills, and knowledge. Not to mention the fact that children learn to read by reading every day!

Each week students can check out up to 5 books of their choice.  We recommend all students in younger grades to bring back books each week on the day their class goes to the library so they can get new ones. Students that need more than one week to read longer chapter books have up to two weeks. If the older students need a bit more time to finish a book, they are welcome to renew their books. Please remember to remind your child to pack their books on their library day! We encourage students that check out popular books to bring them back as soon as they are finished so others can enjoy them as well!

Message from the Nurse:

We are currently seeing a summer cold with predominate symptoms of fever (lasts about 12-24 hours), sore throat, headache, stomach ache. We are also seeing a rise in allergies due to the ragweed and other pollens. Nurse Alli likes to track any illnesses and known diagnoses so please email her or specify in the comment section when you mark your child absent due to illness. This is greatly appreciated!

Please remember your student must be free from fever without medicine, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school to prevent illnesses from spreading. Fever is considered 100.0 or greater. If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email Alis_Brantl@lovejoyisd.net and Heather_Bouska@lovejoyisd.net with the date and reason for the absence. You can also use the School Dismissal App to report an illnesses. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.

If your child has physical restrictions from activity, please email Coach Eric Hill, eric_hill@lovejoyisd.net. Contacting Coach directly will ensure the limitation is noted and alternate plans can be made.
Thank you!

Nurse Alli J

All dismissal changes will now be done through School Dismissal Manager (SDM). You can make changes (now called exceptions) for the current day/week or other dates during the school year. Any default (typical way of transportation) will need to be made by the offic e.  Please email Heather heather_bouska@lovejoyisd.net with any default changes that need to be made.

PLEASE NOTE... The office will create the exceptions for all after school activities (ie Spanish, Watch Me Sculpt, Engineering, etc).

Lovejoy ISD District News

District Communications

One of our Board Priorities is to develop stronger community connections and confidence through effective communication. We are continuing to strengthen our communications and have shared best practices for communicating with the Board of Trustees and best practices for staff communications with parents . Today we are sharing the following information regarding how best to communicate and handle concerns with teachers, coaches, directors, etc. For future reference you may find this information on the Parent Resources page under District Communication.

Student and Parent Concerns/Grievances
The faculty and staff of Lovejoy ISD are committed to the service of our students and their parents by responding promptly and professionally to concerns or grievances which may arise.

Student and Parent Complaints/Grievances are governed by LISD Board Policies FNG (LEGAL) and FNG (LOCAL).

How Do You Resolve Parent Concerns?
If you, as the parent or guardian of a Lovejoy ISD student, have concerns regarding your child's education or performance, we want to talk with you. Sitting down and talking with the people who interact most often with your child on a daily basis - his/her teacher, counselor, coach or director- can remedy the majority of concerns.

Most concerns can be and usually are resolved at the classroom/activity/sports or campus level. However, if your concerns are not addressed by visiting with the teacher, campus counselor, coach or director, you may choose to follow the three-level process listed below:

Level One:
Within 15 business days of the incident causing the concern/complaint, you may request a meeting with the next level supervisor which could be the Athletic Director, Fine Arts Director or Campus Principal. The Level One form may be found here .

Level Two:
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Level One process, within 10 business days of receipt of the Level One decision letter, you may request a meeting with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations (Athletics, Safety, Operations) or Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction (Teachers, Administrators, Student Discipline). The Level Two form may be found here .

Level Three:
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Level Two process, within 10 business days of receipt of the Level Two decision letter, you may appeal the decision to the School Board by contacting the Superintendent. The Level Three form may be found here .
