"EASTER IN AUGUST" RESULTS |
We want to inform you of the result of our "Easter in August" fund request. As we noted in the letter that announced the request for Easter funds, we neglected to include an offering envelope in the actual Easter letter. As a result, our Easter offering in April was quite a bit below what we budgeted. So after celebrating our Christmas in July event we thought why not celebrate Easter in August. You stepped up to the plate and embraced our idea. Thanks to you, our congregation, we have collected $4,000 in "Easter in August" offering so far. Although August has passed, we will still accept Easter in August offerings.
|
Pastor Deb will be on vacation with family in Pennsylvania Sep. 12-18. Pastor Dean Penrod will lead worship on Sep. 15. Rev. Joyce Snapp, Pastor Dean Penrod & Bill Graf will be available for pastoral emergencies.

2019 PURA VIDA MINISTRIES ANNUAL GALA Friday, November 1st at 6:00 pm |
|
Pura Vida Ministries will hold a Benefit Dinner and Celebration on Friday, November 1st at the Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado. The gathering will provide an opportunity to join in the celebration of the continued success of Pura Vida's Guatemala ministries.
The evening includes a reception at 6:00pm, dinner at 7:30pm, and a program presentation on Pura Vida's mission. There will also be a silent auction and time to mingle with others who've participated in Pura Vida's success.
Pura Vida Ministries is currently providing scholarships for over 350 children in several rural Guatemalan villages. Many of these students wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to attend school. A significant number of these scholarship students are sponsored by families from this church. Many of these students, who began sponsorship in primary school, are now enrolled at university. Pura Vida is extremely grateful for your support.
Work teams have provided many news homes and school classrooms for needy communities in Guatemala. Our English Camp has just completed it's 6th year teaching English skills to students in communities near Chichicastenango. Your church has been instrumental in the success via sponsorships, mission trips and financial & prayer support throughout Pura Vida's history.
Please join us November 1st to celebrate our shared accomplishments and hear more about plans for the future of Pura Vida ministries.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

A Good Death
{This week I am sharing from the writings of Jim Ament-Pastor Deb}
I was on a bike ride with my friend Lou on August 28th, when at the end of the ride he received a phone call from a relative about the passing of his ninety-six year old mother. She was an avid gardener her whole life and Lou told me that the family joke was that she would die just like Don Vito Corleone in the 1972 movie, The Godfather.
And it happened that way-relatives found her in her garden with her work gloves on, and trimming shears in her hand.
I never met Elda Samson (1923-2019), but she was a wife, mother of six, an enthusiastic gardener, a part time poet, and apparently an active gracious lady, who wrote the following poem three or four years ago:
I wish to take my final breath
Upon the earth's sweet loving breast.
My body resting on soft leaves
Birds above me in the trees.
Chirping the farewell eulogy
In sweet melodious harmony.
For many hours I have toiled
With rake in hand to till the soil.
The sunshine glowing upon my frame
Set my soul and spirit aflame.
Please no hospital bed for me!
Where confinement proves necessity.
And schedules call them to arrange
A periodic diaper change.
Rather than face that picture hard,
I'd prefer to die in my back yard.
Those who loved me can say a prayer,
That where I am, awaits a garden to care.
By Elda Samson
What a blessing that she received!
