Weekend of September 14 & 15, 2019

Dear Friends,

Last weekend we experienced lively and joyous table fellowship both around God's table in the historic church and around the tables in our gathering space as we enjoyed the hospitality of Christian friends old and new.  It made my heart glad to have so many people together over the course of Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Our attendance and participation were strong and prayerful.  Both of our services were wonderfully fuller than usual. I want to give thanks to everyone who offered leadership and ministry that contributed to this "kick-off", especially the staff, hospitality and worship leaders. Since we moved to from the chapel to the church for Sunday worship, there were changes and new learning for some. The changes were felt differently by members of our community. Some welcomed the return to the church, the vested choir and sound of the organ, while others were not used to the new space, traditional language, and distance from the altar. I wish everyone could always feel like they are getting exactly what they want, but of course that would be unrealistic. Honestly, that would also not be spiritually meaningful or nourishing over time. What is healthy and what I believe will continue to grow us and create our spiritual health and well-being as a community is that we continue to show up and participate prayerfully, thoughtfully and sacrificially.  We are, as Gabe powerfully reminded us in his sermon, called to be on the way of love, followers of Jesus.  Showing up is not always what we want to do. Yet we do this not only for ourselves, but for the sake of others, and for God's sake.

This week we will have a chance to consider and worship our God who is relentless in searching for us when we are lost. We will connect to music and scriptures that remind us of God's grace in seeking us out in all the places we hide. I look forward to being with you in community, and at the tables where we will come face to face with each other and the living God in Christ. Ready or not, here God comes.

Faithfully, Jennifer+

-COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS-

Roof replacement continues through December on our historic church.  You will notice scaffolding around the outside of the church and while there will still be access during the week, construction noise may make prayerful use of the space difficult. We will have full use of the church for weekend worship. Thank you for your generosity and patience which enable this wonderful work of renewal to happen and for your prayers for the generations to come who'll worship God in this holy place.

October 5 & 6: Blessing of Animals at all services
October 26: Trunk or Treat, supper, and spooky stories (kid friendly)

Recently, many, many organizations, especially churches have been the targets of fraudulent emails.

They often appear to be from the rector or a staff member. They usually ask for money or personal information.

If an email looks suspicious before you open it, trust your instinct and DO NOT open it.

If you are unsure, DO NOT open it.

If you do open an email and it appears to be asking for money or personal information, DO NOT REPLY and DO NOT send money.

Jennifer and the SMC staff and leaders will NEVER ask you for money directly via email.

You can always call or send an email to us if you are not sure. We are aware of the problem and this is part of the technology age in which we live and there is very little that can be done to stop this annoyance, but we should be mindful when opening and replying to emails always.
